Next series of Doctor Who to be split transmission

August 31st, 2010

The BBC and Steven Moffat have announced that the transmission of the next series of Doctor Who, in 2011, will be split into two blocks, transmitting in spring and autumn.

The split transmission is the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens.

Steven Moffat said: "The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!"

Benedict Cumberbatch turned down Doctor Who role

August 3rd, 2010

Apart from having an excitingly English name, Benedict Cumberbatch is currently a busy boy. He's the star of the new BBC series, Sherlock.

As soon as we lay eyes on him and saw the way he went about his business, it was clear who his inspiration was.

It seems that, as Sherlock, he's essentially been asked to play the role as if he was the Doctor from Doctor Who.

This, naturally, saw us thinking that perhaps, he could be a future Doctor. It makes a lot of sense.

However, he reportedly turned down the chance to play the lead role in Doctor Who according to D:S.

That's not to say he's not a fan of the show. Apparently, he will be appearing in future episodes of the long-running sci-fi thingy.

Matt Smith to quit Doctor Who?

July 20th, 2010

Rumours are flying around saying that Matt Smith is going to jack-in his role in Doctor Who... and he could be doing it as soon as next year.

Currently filming the Christmas special, Smith is hoping to crack Hollywood by landing more movie roles.

Of course this means that, in recent years, the Doctor has had to regenerate with a lot more frequency than previous outings.

"Matt plans to quit after the next series," a friend told the paper.

"He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons."

A BBC spokesperson added: "Matt is filming the Christmas special and then goes on to film the second series. Beyond that, the BBC and Matt won't speculate on things."
