When we see appeals in the media asking for homes for abandoned dogs they tug at our heartstrings and make us aware of the plight of unwanted pets.
However there is a huge operation behind the re-homing and rescue of these animals, and Dog Rescue, a new series for ITV1, will give an in depth insight into the work involved in helping these animals.
Two of the UK’s busiest re-homing centres will open their doors to reveal the hard work that the staff and volunteers undertake to ensure that our four-legged friends are given the best possible chance of a new and happy life.

However there is a huge operation behind the re-homing and rescue of these animals, and Dog Rescue, a new series for ITV1, will give an in depth insight into the work involved in helping these animals.
Two of the UK’s busiest re-homing centres will open their doors to reveal the hard work that the staff and volunteers undertake to ensure that our four-legged friends are given the best possible chance of a new and happy life.
In the third episode it’s an eventful time at the Manchester Dogs Home: the animal ambulance breaks down; actress Sherrie Hewson judges at a dog show being held to raise funds for the home; and centre manager Colin looks into re-homing a dog on an idyllic island. Over at Harefield’s Dog Trust, Adam rescues nine-week-old collie cross pups.

In the second episode Whitney, who belongs to homeless Jimmy, has her pups but they have to be separated from their mum. The staff at the Manchester Dogs Home have to hand rear them - will Jimmy be reunited with his beloved Whitney?

In the first episode we meet Jimmy, who is homeless, and his beloved dog Whitney. The Manchester Dogs Home provide food, blankets and veterinary treatment for dogs belonging to the homeless, and when Jimmy brings his much loved dog Whitney to the outreach team he is surprised to find out she is pregnant.
News Pedigree funds new series on ITV1

ITV Customer Relations announced today that Mars brand Pedigree is to fund the brand new ITV1 series Dog Rescue. This is the first fully funded AFP to be developed and produced by ITV.
The brand new factual series will offer a unique insight into the work involved in animal rescue and pet re-homing. The observational documentary is set in two of the UK’s busiest animal re-homing centres, The Dog Trust in Harefield and Manchester Dog’s Home and follows the dedicated team of professionals who work there.
Additional content including bespoke video will also be available online at itv.com.
The project was developed by Samantha Wilson and Ben Louis at ITV Customer Relations from a brief through Pedigree’s media planning agency Mediacom.
