EastEnders actress Nina Wadia – who plays Zainab Masood – has told The Times that she hopes her character comes to accept and understand her son Syed’s sexuality.
We saw Zainab learning the truth about Syed’s homosexuality when he got married a couple of weeks ago, but she’s refused to accept it since, despite her son having told her he’s not physically attracted to his wife, Amira.
Nina told the paper, "I want to see Zainab accept her son as gay and accept Christian as his partner.
“I long for the scene where Christian calls Zainab 'mum' - but, of course, they'll put us through hell before we get there."
In other EastEnders news, David Proud, who plays Adam, has revealed that he wishes his on-screen mum hadn’t left the show.
His mum Manda was played by Josie Lawrence who recently filmed her final scenes.
Speaking to the PA, David said, "I really miss her and wish she was still there but she's an amazing actress, but I think I'll always be in touch with her.
"The things she's taught me have been amazing - watching her work and seeing how she approaches the scene and talking over different things."
