Why do I love Emmerdale? I've been asked that so many times I should have an off pat answer ready but I don't.
Emmerdale is the soap I grew up with, the story of a family on a farm, although then it was only on a couple of times a week there were a lot few characters than in other programmes giving you a chance to get to know them all and care about what happened. Of course it couldn't stay at two episodes forever and another night was introduced meaning more people to fill in the time, but as the families by then were established time could be taken to get to know the newcomers.
Emmerdale has changed and evolved over the years and as many people have commented it is now almost unreconisable as the soap it started out as, they do tend to forget though there was even back then murder rape and robbery. The Sugdens though have been there forever and the continuity has been good under the present producer when it comes to remembering things that happened long ago thus bringing realism into it. Seth's funeral was one example Both Kathy and Biff came back.
In another episode Marlon reminded Pollard of something that happened years ago, ok new viewer's may not know or worry about that but for the long term ones it again came in natural he would mention it.
Now to what you hear everywhere and it's true. Emmerdale has a good mix of drama, romance and comedy. and thats what makes it what it is.
