Continuing its 12th series, Fifth Gear presents the usual mix of stunts and challenges that push cars and presenters to their limits. Tonight, Tiff Needell and Jason Plato go head-to-head on the track in two roadsters; Vicki Butler-Henderson takes Radio 2’s ‘Sally Traffic’ on a Bentley chauffeur driving course; Tom Ford gets a preview of the ultimate garage sale; and Jonny Smith celebrates the Deuce Coupe’s 75th anniversary.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has decided to dispose of 50 cars he no longer wants. Tom gets a sneak preview of the ultimate garage sale, including a 1971 VW Beetle with delivery mileage and a 1938 Lancia Limousine used by Hitler and Mussolini.

Tiff and Jason go head-to-head on the track in two popular and powerful roadsters –the BMW Z4 and Nissan 350Z. Which drop-top will emerge victorious after a series of tough challenges?

The new Mini has been an outstanding sales success for its makers, BMW. Now they are looking to profit further from its retro-chic image by launching another modern interpretation of the original –the Clubman. But can an estate car with back doors like an old fashioned shed be cool and –more importantly –can it be practical? Jonny Smith decides to find out.

It is the 75th anniversary of the Deuce Coupe – the chopped and tuned version of the 1932 Ford Model B that gave rise to the cult we now know as Hot Rods. To celebrate, Jonny Smith journeys to Southend, to a business that has proved it is not just the Americans who can build these icons well. Jonny talks to some of the proud owners, including Jaguar design chief Ian Callum.

Every year a group of people with fast cars gathers together to decide which one can reach 60 mph the quickest. Fifth Gear gate-crashes the party to find out which will take top honours in 2007 and whether a new world record can be set.

Also in today’s programme, Vicki ButlerHenderson meets Sally Boazman, Radio 2’s ‘Sally Traffic’. Sally likes all things mechanical –but how will she manage when given just one day to do a Bentley chauffeur driving course that normally takes eight?
