Kate Garraway spoke on GMTV this morning about the birth of her second child, William Garraway Draper.
BEN SHEPHARD: Good morning Kate.
KATE GARRAWAY: Good morning, how are you two?
BS: We’re good, congratulations, little William Garraway Draper, how is everything?
KG: He’s lovely, we’re just in that lovely bubble of bliss at the moment actually, it’s been fantastic, and he seems to be sleeping quite well so far, he had an awful lot of wind last night, but apart from that he’s fine
BS: You know you said he’s sleeping well, is that Derek or Billy?
KG: You know, both of them are asleep, isn’t that typical . The women of the household are up, the boys are asleep. Nothing changes.
BS: And obviously second time around for you all this time, was it easier?
KG: I guess you sort of know what you’re going to get at the end don’t you, so that makes it all nice. I’m sure there’s a few pregnant women out there, so I won’t, sort of, go too much into the detail, because it’s always nice to be the other side of that particular side of that event isn’t it? With a baby in your arms.
BS: It’s incredible Kate, I can’t believe, I mean genuinely because we’ve sat here and been through it, but Darcey’s three now, and those years have flown by, how was she when she met little Billy?
KG: I know, do you know she was so sweet, it was lovely. We arranged it, because of the fact that obviously we wanted her to come to hospital straight away, but because of the of the swine flu restrictions she wasn’t allowed to. So I thought right, well that’s it, I’m going to…because I was at the same hospital where you had yours, and you know how lovely they are there, I was frankly quite tempted to stay for a while because it’s lovely having your meals brought to you. But I thought no, we will go home so that Darcey can see him quickly. And I got home and she came running to the door and said ‘Is it out of your tummy yet?’ And so I said, ‘Yes he is, here he is’, so she was really excited and being very good – running around getting nappies and all sorts at the moment, so it’s brilliant.
BS: Fantastic, don’t worry that will change. We were just looking at some footage of when you brought Darcey in and I can see just how like Darcey when she was a tiny little baby... Does Billy look like you, Derek or Darcey?
KG: There’s a little bit more Garraway in there this time, which I think we’re all relieved about. Although I might say he was up all night with a lot wind, so there’s obviously still some Draper in there too. But anyway, no, he’s very sweet and he’s got a little cap of black hair like Darcey had and he’s got blue eyes like they all have, he’s just perfect, so he’s gorgeous.
BS: Well look, we’re absolutely delighted, I’m so, so glad that it’s over. And you’ve got a gorgeous little boy, and as you know I was desperate for you to have a little boy as well. So little Billy - give him a big kiss and a hug from us.
KG: You’ll have to give me some tips Ben.
BS: Yeah, don’t worry we can get to those, don’t worry. We’ve had so many texts and emails and Tweets Kate as well – which we’ll make sure we’ll send on. Sam251 says, ‘Kate, join Twitter so you can let us know how you’re getting on?’ Any chance of that happening Garraway?
KG: Well, I don’t know Ben. Can you teach me how to do it?
BS: I mean I know my way around it, but I’m not sure I can to be honest.
KG: I like the idea of it, I like the idea of keeping…because I have driven everybody mad for nine months with pregnancy, so I don’t want to let them off the hook now, really, on maternity leave, so I might have to do something like that.
BS: We’ll sort that out, you’ve certainly driven us all mad, but we’ve loved it as well. Kate it’s great to speak to you, thank you so much because I know how busy it all is, especially when the baby comes.
KG: Thank you. Thanks for all your good wishes and then to everybody at home as well – thanks for all your lovely wishes, it’s been brilliant. I’ve had so many nice thoughts coming through to the hospital as well, so thank you for that.
