Coronation Street News & Gossip Round Up

Corrie star Jennie McAlpine – who plays the long suffering Fiz Stape – has revealed that fans of the show often stop her in the street to heap praise on her on-screen husband, John.

In an interview with Inside Soap, Jennie said, "People will come up to me and say, 'Ooh, that John, he's a one - but isn't he lovely?'

Is the X Factor a fix?

August 10th, 2010

Oh dear!

Big allegations being thrown around at the moment as the X Factor producers have been accused of rigging the show after they ALLEGEDLY signed a deal to guarantee one act safe passage through to the live shows.

A member of the girlband Husstle told other contestants at London's Boot Camp round that her group had already been promised a place in the studio finals, according to various reports.

A (hopefully televised) fight is supposed to have broken out after one of the group apparently claimed that her band's manager Spike Dawbarn (formerly of 911 and thereby, most likely to have a link with Cowell) got a guarantee from Simon Cowell and show producers that the group would make it past both Boot Camp and Judges' Houses.

Nicole Scherzinger takes Cheryl's role oen US X Factor?

August 10th, 2010

Pussycat doll Nicole Scherzinger is set to steal Cheryl Cole's role on The X Factor.  Don't worry Chezza fans, it's only her role on the US X Factor that is in jeopardy....

Scherzinger ahs beens tanding in for Cole on the auditions since Cole has been recovering from malaria and has so impressed Simon Cowell and the audience that she's considered a shoo in for the US role.

A source says, "Nicole blew Simon away. Her appearance was always being viewed as an 'audition' for X Factor US, but no-one expected her to be quite as good as she was."

Cole was originally rumoured to be taking the role on the US version as well but what with Scherzinger already being so well known and popular over there (Cole is currently referred to in the US as Derek Hough's singer girlfriend) it looks like she might have the edge.

Chris Hollins to quit BBC Breakfast?

August 2nd, 2010

What with GMTV's presenting crisis over for now, it looks like the Beeb might have a few issues of their own to deal with.

BBC Breakfast is moving from London to Manchester and it looks set to lose some staff if it does.  Sports presenter and winner of last year's Strictly Come Dancing, Chris Hollins, is reportedly so mad with the plans to move the show to Salford Quays, that he may do a Ben Shepherd, Andrew Castle and Penny Smith, and leave the show.

Having recently bought a London pad he's reportedly said, "No man in their right mind is going to buy a house 18 months before they are due to move to Manchester."  He is also thought to have issues with the guests on the show who he believes will not want to travel up north to appear on the show in a move that could come as early as 2012.

Strictly Star Defects to Dancing on Ice?

August 2nd, 2010

Matthew Cutler

Rumour has it that former Strictly Come Dancing Star, Matthew Cutler, who won the show with Alesha Dixon in 2007, is defecting to Dancing On Ice.

Cutler was axed from the main dancing part of the show for the upcoming series and therefore decided to quit the show.  It is believed that Cutler will take part on Dancing On Ice as a celebrity learning to skate, and not as a professional.

Cutler's dancing ability will definitely give him advantages over the other competitors in the show and they're bound to be annoyed at his head start in the competition.

Robbie Williams' bezzie mate, Jonathan Wilkes is also rumoured to be taking part in the next ice skating series.

Top of The Pops on Five?

July 23rd, 2010

TOTP

Top of the Pops was once the definitive music chart show that everyone watched on a Friday night.  Who can forget their opening line, "It's Friday night, it's 7.30, it's Top of the Pops."

Rumours are circling that the show, which was cancelled by the BBC in 2006, is to be brought back to our screens on Channel Five.

Owner of The Daily Express newspaper, Richard Desmond, is currently in talks to buy and revamp the channel and has reportedly told colleagues of his wishes to revive the show.

The BBC do however still own the rights to the format of the show and they do still produce special Christmas and New Year editions of the show.

Eamonn Holmes to present BBC Breakfast?

July 20th, 2010

Now that BBC Breakfast is moving away from London to a new home in Salford, there's going to be big changes to the team as people will invariably not want to leave the nation's capital.

And so, who will front the new-look Breakfast? Rumour has it that it'll be Eamonn Holmes.

Dreadful news.

The show's current presenters - Chris Hollins and Sian Williams - are apparently not best pleased about the move up North, with some staff adding that the move is "utter madness".

Boo hoo! Imagine that! A really well paid job making you up sticks!

Anyway, what many don't realise is that, by virtue of the fact they've got a really sought-after job, there's a big ol' queue of people willing to take it off their hands.

The names already being put forward are This Morning hosts Holmes and wife Ruth Langsford.

Matt Smith to quit Doctor Who?

July 20th, 2010

Rumours are flying around saying that Matt Smith is going to jack-in his role in Doctor Who... and he could be doing it as soon as next year.

Currently filming the Christmas special, Smith is hoping to crack Hollywood by landing more movie roles.

Of course this means that, in recent years, the Doctor has had to regenerate with a lot more frequency than previous outings.

"Matt plans to quit after the next series," a friend told the paper.

"He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons."

A BBC spokesperson added: "Matt is filming the Christmas special and then goes on to film the second series. Beyond that, the BBC and Matt won't speculate on things."

Soap News & Gossip Round Up

Ex-EastEnders actor Mohammed George – who played Gus Smith on the show – has won his libel case against Express Newspapers.

The case stemmed from a story that was printed in the Daily Star earlier this year, claiming the actor “had to be removed” from a party celebrating 25 years of EastEnders.

The article went on to accuse Mohammed of being “drunk and aggressive” at the party, which he strongly denied.

Mohammed’s lawyer, Lucy Moorman, told the High Court today that the newspaper group now accepted that the claims were "entirely untrue".

The PA quotes Moorman as saying, "In particular, the defendant accepts that Mr George had not been drinking alcohol when he arrived at the party…
