Kane is sentenced. Aden and Belle grow closer. Who is the father of Martha’s baby? Another Buckton arrives in Summer Bay. Jai develops an obsession with Matilda.
It is Kane’s day in court this week, and both Kirsty and Morag beg him to plead not guilty. But Kane is determined to face the music, so he enters a guilty plea. When he is handed down a nine-year sentence, Kane makes a dramatic decision – he wants his wife and son to move on with their lives and forget about him. Kirsty should not have to wait for him to get out of prison and he does not want Oliver to see him behind bars. In a final parting gesture, Kane takes off his wedding ring and hands it to a disbelieving Kirsty. Is this really the end?
As Kirsty and Kane’s relationship nears its sellby date, Aden and Belle are in throes of a new romance. Aden has even been sneaking into Belle’s window at night for secret trysts. But their happiness looks to be shattered by a jealous Nicole. The fiery blonde takes it upon herself to quiz Belle about the burgeoning relationship. When he learns of the confrontation, Aden is furious. He crushes Nicole once and for all by telling her to stay out of his life. Unfortunately for Aden, Belle is mad at him for divulging their secret to Nicole in the first place. Has Aden blown his chance with Belle?
Elsewhere, Martha is keeping mum on a scandal of her own. When she has a miscarriage scare, a concerned Roman shows up at the hospital. This baby might be his and he wants to make sure all is well. Finally Martha realises that she must find out who her child’s father is once and for all, and consents to a DNA test. But when Roman has a one-night stand with Charlie Buckton, the new girl in town spots the testing kit on his bedside table. Will she put two and two together?
Meanwhile, Charlie’s little sister Ruby shows up on her doorstep with her boyfriend, Pat, in tow. A former school caretaker, he is much older than Ruby’s 15 years – and Charlie is not pleased. She is even less amused to learn that Ruby was expelled for kissing Pat while he was on the job. As far as Ruby is concerned, however, she is not the one who needs rescuing. When she sees how angry Charlie is with Ross for dating Morag, she resolves to stay in Summer Bay to help her sister come to terms with their father’s new life.
Miles is also having parenting problems this week. He is worried that the only reason Jai is keen on extra help with his schoolwork is that he has a crush on his tutor – Matilda. After Jai tries to hold her hand, Matilda also becomes convinced the boy has feelings for her. The situation escalates when Ric catches Jai in Matilda’s bedroom sniffing her clothes. But are Jai’s intentions as sinister as they seem?
Also this week, at Rachel’s suggestion, Aden moves back home to care for Larry. But will the responsibility of being a carer prove too much for him? And will Larry stay off the bottle this time?
Home and Away takes a break from Monday 4 August until Tuesday 26 August.
