After blazing a trail through China, Paul Merton is returning to Five with two new topical travel shows.
For his next two destinations Paul has picked two contrasting countries – exotic India and our European partner Germany – both appealed to his particularly quirky eye.
Germany is one of our closest neighbours but most Brits know little or nothing about modern day Germany and very few of us choose to take our holidays there. So just how far does our stereotypical image of the Germans match the reality?
Nearly 60 years after the war ended and 20 since the Berlin Wall came down, Paul Merton puts on his sandals and lederhosen to visit Germany, with side trips to Austria and Switzerland.
In the Indian series Paul would like to meet 'the coolest monk in India' - Karmapa Dorje - who has his own MySpace page, is an avid fan of the Black Eyed Peas and Spiderman, and is an enthusiastic Elvis impersonator.
Paul Merton said: "India is such a vibrant and spiritual place, and somewhere I've always wanted to get to the heart of. As with China, we've got a number of interesting places on the itinerary in both India and Germany, but once I get there, I hope to throw in a few surprises too."
