Coming soon to Five is a new series following the day-to-day lives of the 170 monkeys, chimps, orangutans and apes that live in the largest primate rescue centre in the world: the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset. Filmed over the course of a year, the series follows the rescue and rehabilitation stories of some of the world’s most abused and neglected primates, and the hard work of Jim and Alison Cronin in their ongoing mission to stop the illegal smuggling of these animals from the wild.
Chimps that were found abused in laboratories, circus tents or as photographers’ props are rehabilitated and given the chance to spend the rest of their days being cared for in a natural environment. Highlights of the series include the birth of woolly monkey Julio who, immediately after being born, was rejected by his mother; the rescue of Bryan – a chimp who was found on a beach in Mexico where he was being groomed to work as a photographer’s prop; the birth of Dinda – the latest orangutan baby to join the Park; and the rescue of Koko, who is otherwise affectionately known as one of the ‘Ugly Monkeys’.
