Detective drama in which the dishevelled detective gets some free advice from a world-famous sex therapist when he investigates the murder of her former partner and lover. The key to the crime is discovering the identity of the mysterious 'lady in black' seen leaving the scene of the crime.

Sex and the Married Detective: In the staircase scene, two musicians carry a double bass case and a violin case up the stairs. They look a little like Laurel and Hardy. Why do they turn around and go back down the stairs when Columbo mentions the Lady in Black? What joke am I missing?
