Darren Stark makes a shock return. News of Susan’s diagnosis spreads. Rachel goes on a date with an older man. Zeke sneaks out to go to a party. Elle fights for a career as a journalist.
It is a turbulent week for the Kennedy-Kinski household. As Susan struggles to accept her MS diagnosis, Ramsay Street rallies round to welcome her home from hospital. Susan’s family are relieved when her sight shows signs of returning, but Libby is distracted by an answer phone message from Darren. The message prompts her to turn on Karl and challenge him about his past indiscretions. Karl refuses to take his daughter’s vitriol, but leaps to her defence when Darren shows up in Ramsay Street, begging Libby to hear his case. The argument boils over and Darren shoves Karl. Libby is then forced to tell her dad that Darren cheated on her, and admits that she has been lashing out at Karl because of Darren’s infidelity. The family tries to keep the truth from Susan, but when she finds out, she banishes Darren from the house.
As if that were not enough, Libby begins to worry that the Kinski kids are slipping out of control when she receives a letter from the school about Zeke’s fight at the pool. Desperate to spare Susan more worry, Libby tells Zeke she will take care of it if he and Rachel promise to talk to her about their problems. But Rachel begins to act out when she lies about her age and accepts an invitation to a nightclub with Angus, an older man.
The chemistry between them is obvious, but when Rachel slips away after a passionate kiss, Angus wonders whether he will see her again. They both get the shock of their lives when Angus arrives at school the next day as Rachel’s replacement teacher. Meanwhile, Zeke sneaks out to go to a party and, when confronted by Libby, lies about where he has been.
Elsewhere, Elle feels guilty that her article did so much damage to the farmer who owned the sick horses. She tries to make it up to him by writing an article about rural problems, but is dismayed when the editor of the Erinsborough News refuses to publish it. A determined Elle decides to fight for her fledgling career in journalism by taking the story to a rival paper. When the article is accepted, the Erinsborough News editor is so impressed that he offers her at a job at the paper alongside Riley.
Also this week, Janae resents Kirsten’s presence and is shocked when she admits she still has feelings for Ned. Declan tries to apologise to Bridget for his behaviour and impulsively kisses her, only to be devastated when she says she already has a boyfriend. Struggling to cope with her mounting debt, Valda inadvertently commits fraud. And Carmella and Marco finally confront the growing attraction between them.
