Will Steph and the boys escape from the mine? Dan faces a crisis of the heart. Frazer and Marco decide to go into business together. Steve confronts his feelings about his father. Paul makes Kirsten a tempting offer.
Steph, Dan, Steve and Ned face peril as they struggle to dig themselves out of the collapsed mine. Steve must fight his claustrophobia whilst trying to keep his brother awake by talking to him.
Conversation turns to their father, and Steve makes a few harsh comments about their dad that Ned fails to understand. Has Steve said too much? In the next tunnel, Steph pushes Dan to be honest about what is in his heart. She wants to know how he truly feels about his estranged wife, Sam, and his new flame, Libby. Before Dan can come up with a decent answer, rescue teams free the group and take them to hospital. Dan is given the all-clear by doctors, but when he goes to speak to Libby, he collapses in her arms. Karl diagnoses Dan with internal bleeding and rushes him to surgery.
As Dan’s operation proceeds, Libby worries that the strain might be too much for Sam, who has a history of mental health problems. Sam is further tested when Dan comes round and asks to see Libby first. Having come through an ordeal, Dan puts his heart on his sleeve and confesses his love for her. But Libby suppresses her own feelings and tells him that he needs to sort out his issues with Sam before anything else. To this end, Dan and Sam have an honest discussion about the past which brings up painful memories of Sam’s miscarriage. As the pair spend more time together, their chemistry seems undeniable, and Dan is faced with a terrible dilemma. Is he in love with two women?
Elsewhere, Frazer excites Marco with the proposal that they open a restaurant together. Marco has always dreamed of running a restaurant, but can he break his father’s heart by leaving the family fruit-and-veg business? The restaurant plan takes a step closer to fruition when Lou hints that he would be willing to sell the General Store. Marco and Frazer make plans to take over the business, but Lou starts to feel conflicted about handing over the shop that he and Harold founded. The boys agree to keep him on as an employee, but will Lou be happy with the changes they plan to make?
