Brooke runs into someone from her past while on a trip to New York with Owen. Nathan and Lucas attend Dan's hearing while they try to protect him from Jamie. Mia gets an offer from a major record label and in the meantime, Haley and Nathan's marriage is on the rocks.

When the girls find themselves locked in the school library, Peyton and Lindsey take the opportunity to argue about Lucas, Brooke tries to stand up for her mother against the criticisms of others, and Haley acts as a mentor for Mia. Lucas and Nathan attempt to tell their loved ones about their indiscretions, but are unsure about how truthful they should be. Meanwhile, Mouth gets his first on-air assignment.

Frustrated by Lucas's growing popularity at school, Nathan searches for his weak spot. He decides to romantically pursue Lucas's friend Haley as an act of revenge. Meanwhile, Peyton is furious with Lucas for submitting her drawings to the local newspaper without her knowledge.

The friends gather at Tric to see The Honorary Title perform, and Brooke is infuriated when Victoria turns up. Carrie tries to get closer to Nathan. Brooke sets Mouth up on a blind date with her assistant Millicent, but Alice ruins the plan with her interference. Lindsey confronts Lucas about Peyton, and Lucas rounds off the evening by making an astonishing proposal.

Haley tries to encourage a trouble maker student to join the Ravens. Nathan goes and visits Dan in prison. Brooke opens her store in the old Karen's Cafe and Peyton signs her first band.

Haley tries to make Nathan understand what is going to happen if he doesn't change his ways. Lucas and Skills prepare Jamie to compete in a race-car competition. Meanwhile, Brooke faces problems at her company and Peyton meets Lucas' new girlfriend.
