auschwitz –the great escape: revealed
This absorbing documentary uncovers the true story of an audacious escape from Auschwitz by two young Slovak Jews in 1944 – an event which alerted the world to the horror of the Nazi concentration camps.
The truth about Auschwitz was the most guarded secret of the Nazi’s Final Solution. The plan to exterminate the Jews relied upon the camp’s diabolical purpose being kept secret from the outside world. Auschwitz was deliberately constructed so that it was impossible for any prisoners to escape and reveal the truth.
Throughout the five years of the camp’s existence, there were hundreds of attempts at escape. However, only five men succeeded and survived the war to tell their stories. Rudolf Vrba and his friend Alfred Wetzler were the first escapees to get information about the real purpose of the camp out to the free world. This film uncovers the true story of Vrba and Wetzler’s daring escape, and examines how their written account of their experiences –the Auschwitz Protocols –affected the world.
The documentary uses dramatic reconstructions and expert historical analysis, and features testimony from Holocaust survivors Freddie Knoller and Otto Pressburger. It also includes an interview with Professor George Klein –a Hungarian Jew who witnessed the Auschwitz Protocols in 1944.

Dear sir/madam,
i am currently working on a Irish Leaving Certificate project on Rudolf Vrma's extraordinary escape from the concentration camp of Auschwitz and the subsequent release of the Auschwitz Protocols, and was wondering if it was any way possible for this 'Auschwitz the Great Escape - Revealed' documentory to be aired again on Channel Five as it would be highly beneficial to the project and a remakable and significant source. I hope you will consider my reqest as a friend recommended it very high, and if possible to be aired in the next few weeks or as soon as possible. thank you.
Yours Faithfully,
R. Murphy.

I watched this documentary on channel 5 recently, and whilst being deeply interesting and informative, I felt it to be slightly biased. In particular the allegation that the Jewish overseers (I can't remember the exact term used to describe them) were FORCED to fill these posts. I find it very hard to believe that the administration of this camp would find it necessary to use coercion in this way.
Surely it would have been far easier for them to simply offer better living conditions and facilities to volunteers, as illustrated in the 2007 film "The Counterfeiters". I really feel that documentary film makers need to be more careful, as when we the viewers feel that we are being spun a line like this the impact of the documentary as a whole, and its message, is undermined.
