Continuing tonight is the travel series that sees
Julia Bradbury and Toby Amies offer opinionated,
advice. In this instalment, the intrepid duo scour
the globe for the best adventure holidays on offer.
Julia’s research takes her to Oman in the Middle
East, while Toby ends up in the picturesque
mountains of Lesotho in southern Africa.
Recent trends show that British holidaymakers
are turning their backs on the traditional package
tour in favour of more activity-based trips in farflung
places. With this in mind, Julia and Toby
focus this week on the adventure holiday,
scouring the globe for the most original and
exciting tours on offer.
Julia kicks things off with a trip to the Middle-
Eastern country of Oman – a land full of friendly
people and dramatic scenery. Steering clear of the
tourist trail, she heads to the breathtaking Hajar
mountains in the northeast of the country for a
spot of rock-climbing. She also finds herself
pushing her body to the limit as she attempts to
cross a vast desert canyon. Later, she meets
some members of a Bedouin tribe and beds down
for the night in the desert.
Toby, meanwhile, is 4,000 miles southwest of
Oman in Lesotho – a small kingdom located within
South Africa. Separated from the surrounding
land by mountains, many of Lesotho’s villages are
accessible only on horseback, by foot or using
light aircraft. Toby saddles up for a trek across the
mysterious and beautiful mountains via a series of
lonely tracks and swollen rivers. On his journey, he
witnesses a special ceremony performed by
some mountain villagers – but the spectacle
makes him lose track of time and he fails to make
it to his accommodation as night falls...
