Sky News Exclusive Interview With Magdalen Makola

Sky News has spoken exclusively to nurse Magdalen Makola about her ordeal last December, when illegal immigrant Justice Ngema conned his way into her home, threatened her with a knife and warned: “I’m a professional at this job and I kill people if I like” before dumping his victim into the boot of her own car.

Makola’s hands and legs were bound, tape was stuck over her eyes and mouth and a rope was placed around her neck.  Ngema then drove her car around Scotland as he emptied her bank account.

Justice Ngema, has been sentenced for abduction and assault after Makola was found dehydrated and suffering from hypothermia on Boxing Day last year.

Ngema was given an eight-year jail term by the High Court in Glasgow as well as a lifelong restriction order.

Magdalen has told Sky News, “The most worrying thing was that rope on my neck, I thought the minute he’s finished with my money he’s going to come back at pull it.  So I just started to make friends with death.”

Ngema abandoned the car at Lanarkshire railway station.  From inside the boot Magdalen could hear trains, cars and people passing.

“When I heard footsteps, I started to kick the boot of the car, thinking that people might hear the sound but when I heard them pass I realised they couldn’t hear me and I was losing hope.

“One day I heard no sound and concluded it was Christmas Day.  I decided to curl up and try to relax and enjoy Christmas in the boot.

“I sang and prayed to myself.  I just started giving up on life and I was picturing myself in the coffin.”

Surviving without any food or water Magdalen described to Sky News how she tried to relieve her thirst.

“I tried to squeeze some condensation from the boot interior in the hope it would relieve my thirst but it was no good because of the tape on my mouth.”

On Boxing Day, 10 days after she was abducted, police traced Magdalen’s car.

“I could hear two men talking so I lifted my head to the gap in the boot and shouted ‘Please help me!’

“I heard the footsteps coming towards the car and one of them said ‘we are the police’.  I was like, thank God, I have been rescued.”
