In association with The Sun and sponsored by Walkers, this star studded event will honour those that have achieved the highest level of international acclaim in their chosen fields over the past twelve months. Britain’s Best 2008 will allow the nation to take stock and feel proud of what the country has achieved internationally and also celebrate the richness and diversity of modern Britain. Those who attended last year’s event and were honoured included: Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and David Beckham.
There are seven award categories on the night. During the ceremony one individual in each category will be honoured at this prestigious event. The categories include: The Arts, Television, Campaigner, Sport, Business, Music, and Film.
Two additional awards will also be given: Outstanding Global Achievement (in association with The Sun) and The Walkers Home Grown Talent Award, the only award voted for by the public and created to recognise and celebrate Britain’s best up-and-coming young talent. The winner of this new award will be voted for online by readers of The Sun.
A specially chosen panel of influential and esteemed personalities from a variety of backgrounds and industries will select this year’s winners. They include: Lord Sebastian Coe; rugby champion Jeremy Guscott; sports personality Steve Rider; business journalist Jeff Randall; Paralympic champion Dame Tanni Grey–Thompson; Chairman of the UK Film Council Stewart Till CBE; Marks & Spencer Chief Executive Sir Stuart Rose; Rugby World Cup winning coach Sir Clive Woodward CBE; and former athlete and television presenter Colin Jackson CBE.
