This electrifying special showcases daredevil stunt performers as they defy death, danger and discomfort in pursuit of tough world records.
Beverley Turner and Andy Goldstein present a series of dazzling feats, some of which have never been performed before. The show features spectacular car dominos; a motorbike bursting through walls of fire; a tug of war between men and a car; and an attempt to break the world record for the highest jet-pack flight.
Wheels spin, cars fly through the air and burning debris rains down on fearless stuntmen as the Big Stunt Show attempts to lay waste to a whole series of daunting world records.
First up, stuntman Craig Jones and superbike rider John Reynolds burn rubber in the highly demanding tyre-burn-out stunt. The pair compete to see who can pop their tyres first by riding their back wheel as fast as possible on the spot. Both riders face each other as their back wheels spin at 130mph. This trick is harder than it looks; they cannot allow their back tyres to gain traction or they will end up being propelled forward into each other. Can they pull it off?
Elsewhere, the show’s resident stunt driver Tricky attempts to perform car dominos. For this spectacular feat, Tricky will drive through 15 cars all upended and stood on their rear bumpers in a line. As Tricky drives into each car, it flips up in the air over his head and crashes down behind him – or at least, that is the theory. Tricky’s current world record is 11 – can he make all 15? In order to do this he will drive a reinforced V12 Jaguar – the only car that could endure the stunt.
Other car shenanigans see a team of professional strongmen pitched against a stunt car in a tug of war. The rope joining the tug-of-war team to the car will pass through a wall of fire. If the team loses the contest, its leader, Peter Pedrero, will be pulled into the fire and perform a full “body burn”. If the car loses, it will be set alight with stuntman Tricky inside.
Taking a well-earned break from his deathdefying duties, Tricky will then coach guest contributor Toni Cornish in a risky aerial stunt. Toni has to drive Tricky’s car over a ramp and land it in a paddling pool. In addition, Toni has to burst a balloon which is at the centre of a giant target in the pool. She must follow Tricky’s instructions to the letter in order not to overshoot or fall short of the target. As an extra incentive, Toni will win a new flatscreen TV if she succeeds. If she fails, her old TV will meet a crushing end at the hands of a JCB.
Also in the show, Eric Scott, the world’s leading jet-pack pilot, will attempt to beat his world record for the highest jet-pack flight; stunt motorbike rider Steve Brown has to smash through a series of burning wooden panels; and pilot Mark Jeffries breaks his own record for the number of barrel rolls performed in 30 seconds.
Plus, free runners Chase and Cole Armitage perform their acrobatics across two moving vehicles driven by Tricky; and Johan Vervoort turns himself into a human catapult by slinging himself into the air from between two cranes – with only a parachute to help him back down.
