Both semi-finals and the final will also be shown live on BBC Three, while the third place play-off will be live on Red Button.

The tournament is made up of the winners of the six football confederation championships (AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC, UEFA). In addition the FIFA World Cup winner and the host country qualify automatically, bringing the number of teams to eight.

The following day, current FIFA Confederations Cup champions and Copa America 2007 winners, Brazil, in Group B, begin their defence of the title against 2008 African Cup of Nations winners, Egypt. The 2006 FIFA World Cup winners Italy and 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup winners, USA, complete the group.
