Five’s season of live football continues with coverage of this UEFA Cup Group F clash between Slavia Prague and Aston Villa. Colin Murray presents with commentary from Tony Jones. Kick-off is at 19.45.

Aston Villa have made a good start to the Premier League this year, earning a creditable 13 points from seven games to reach the lofty heights of fifth place. Highlights have included an impressive 4-2 victory over Manchester City on the opening day of the season and a 2-1 away win at Spurs. Leading goalscorer Gabriel Agbonlahor has netted five times so far this term, while star man Gareth Barry appears to have put his abortive move to Liverpool behind him with a series of solid performances for club and country.

Mark Nicholas presents highlights from England’s one-day international series against South Africa, with commentary from Geoffrey Boycott, Simon Hughes and Barry Richards. This week, the teams meet for the fourth and fifth ODIs – from Lord’s and Cardiff respectively.

To say the last two weeks of English cricket have been dramatic would be something of an understatement. After losing the third Test against the Proteas and with it the series, Michael Vaughan stood down as Test captain and Paul Collingwood resigned as ODI skipper. England’s star batsman Kevin Pietersen was then announced as the successor to both men and promptly went on to lead his side to a convincing win in the fourth Test.

At the time of writing, South Africa lead the fourmatch series 1-0 after a thoroughly convincing victory in the second Test in Leeds. The defeat left England with a lot of thinking to do and highlighted problems in virtually every area of their game. The batsmen were eclipsed by the efforts of their South African counterparts, who showed patience, grit and sound techniques. England threw their wickets away, with Alistair Cook the only specialist batsman to pass 50 in either innings.

The Marathon des Sables is renowned as the ultra multi-day marathon and this year sees the longest route yet. The equivalent of nearly a standard marathon every day, this gruelling task is not one to be entered into lightly. 255 of the entrants are flying the flag for Britain this year and while other nations have left it solely to the professionals, the British candidates consist of both male and female marathon veterans, but many are first timers, including fire fighters, airline pilots, models, army officers, barristers, veterinary surgeons, and plumbers.

Mark Nicholas and the team present the new season of international cricket as England continue their three-match Test series against New Zealand. Geoffrey Boycott, Barry Richards and Simon Hughes join Mark in the commentary box for highlights of the second Test from Old Trafford in Manchester.

England have only recently returned from New Zealand after completing a morale-boosting Test series victory. Now the fixture has been reversed as the Kiwis arrive for a three-match Test series and five ODIs. England will start as clear favourites as the Black Caps find themselves in a downward spiral, thanks to a few retirements and defections to the rogue Indian Cricket League. New Zealand’s hopes for the summer rest with their shrewd new captain Daniel Vettori, who ranks as one of the best off-spinners in the world; bludgeoning allrounder Jacob Oram; and wicket keeper Brendon McCullum, whose dazzling 158 not out lit up the start of the Indian Premier League in April.
