street crime live (2/8)

Donal MacIntyre presents this exciting new crimefighting series which puts the viewer on the police frontline in cities across the UK. Tonight, Donal travels to Humberside to present the programme live from one of the most deprived areas of the country, the Orchard Park and North Hull estate.

Each week Street Crime Live broadcasts from the streets where the crimes actually take place. Donal is on location in the thick of the action – whether it be the back of a police car, the middle of a crime scene, a bustling incident room, or on foot patrolling the toughest neighbourhoods. He is assisted throughout the series by expert reporter Laura Richards, a criminal psychologist who has ten years of experience working for the Metropolitan Police and the Home Office.

This week, Donal visits Humberside to lift the lid on crime in the region. A few weeks prior, Donal joined the local constabulary when they dropped a “community cop shop” on the Orchard Park and North Hull estate. The cop shop is a portakabin manned by police officers who crack down on the local criminals while providing the law-abiding members of the community with a drop-in centre for complaints. Donal accompanies the police as they carry out raids and go on patrol during a three-month clamp down on crime and disorder.

Tonight’s programme also follows the Humberside Fire Brigade over the hectic Bonfire Night weekend. As well as accidental blazes, the fire service has to deal with a large number of calls to fires started deliberately. Firefighters must also contend with the risk of assault, with around 65 violent incidents on staff every year.

Elsewhere, Donal visits a community in Grimsby where residents are under siege from local youngsters. In true MacIntyre style, he cuts to the heart of the issue by going to meet young people on several Humberside housing estates to see what they have to say for themselves.

Also this week, the show continues its regular features, such as urgent police appeals and a roundup of crime stories. Other segments include the pick of the most extreme national and international CCTV crime footage, and the road testing of state-of-the-art anti-crime technology.
