A League of Their Own

Andrew Flintoff has had a right go at Mike Atherton over the latter’s credentials as a cricket commentator.

Flintoff dropped a few f-bombs during his rant at a Sky TV party on Tuesday, calling Atherton a “f**king punk”.

”He’s a punk,” Flintoff said.

”He’s a f…..g punk. He sits there making judgments about players that are much better than he ever was, believe me, he’s a punk. Continue reading »

Tom Daley, 17, has been teaching Jamie Redknapp and John Bishop how to dive for Sky 1′s, A League of Their Own.

The pair, ex-footballer Redknapp and comedian Bishop, were put through their paces as they prepared to perform a 10metre dive in Plymouth.

The 10metre dive can mean travelling at speeds of up to 40mph and the pair were audibly nervous to take the plunge.

When first taken up to the board, Bishop said, “That’s a long, long way.  Can we go now?” while Redknapp said, “You get up there and you look down and you just think, ‘I can’t do this.’”

The show is hosted by James Corden who commented on their challenging dive with Bishop adding, “It was terrifying on a number of levels.  One it’s very high, and two I’ve got to take my robe off next to Tom Daley and Jamie Redknapp.”

Also guesting on the show in the studio are Phil Jupitus and Peter Crouch who join Corden, Redknapp, Bishop, Georgie Thompson and Freddie Flintoff.

A League of Their Own is on Friday’s on Sky 1 and Sky 1 HD at 10pm.

Team Captain and ex-footie star Jamie Redknapp goes to great lengths to help sports quiz A League of Their Own set ratings ablaze with their new series.  Quite literally actually as he is set on fire.

A revamp of the show, shown on Sky 1, will see the team captains, Redknapp and Freddie Flintoff, as well as their guests take part in some challenging and also ridiculous tasks.

The new series will see the weekly guests and regular guests Georgie Thompson and John Bishop take part in new challenges which include Christine Bleakley on a trapeze, Phil “The Power” Taylor dangling from a diving board for as long as he can and Tim Henman playing tennis dodgeball where he has to avoid the tennis balls.

As well as the new stunts, the show has been extended from half an hour to a full hour.

Redknapp said of his fire stunt, “I burnt my eyebrows and my eyelashes. Afterwards I said I could smell burning and the make-up girl said my eyelashes and eyebrows were singed,” while Corden added, “We were shouting, put him out, put him out. Apparently another 15 seconds and it could have burned through to his arms – the suit would have burned through.”

The new series of A League Of Their Own starts this Friday at 9.30pm on Sky1 HD.

Sky 1 HD today announced the return of its hit sports entertainment panel show A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN hosted by James Corden, in which two teams of comedians, celebrity sports fans and sports stars compete against each other for sporting honours.

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN

Thursday 11 March, 9pm. Sky1/HD/ www.sky.com/sky1

The squads are confirmed and it’s kick-off time on Sky1 HD’s brand new comedy quiz show. BAFTA®-winning Gavin & Stacey star James Corden referees the wacky challenge of sporting knowledge as two teams of comedians, sports stars, and celebrity sports fans compete against each other.

Former Liverpool star and Sky Sports football pundit Jamie Redknapp captains the red team as they take on England cricketing hero Freddie Flintoff’s blue team. Joining Redknapp as a regular panelist is comedian John Bishop, while Sky Sports News presenter Georgie Thompson lines up for Flintoff’s blues.

This first episode kicks off the series with an hour-long special featuring world heavyweight boxing champion David Haye, and the voice of Bob the Builder and man behaving badly, Neil Morrissey.

Across three rounds, the teams’ sporting knowledge is put to the ultimate test. A League Of Their Own takes its cue from sports fans’ obsession with lists and stats and the first round sees the teams arrange three possible answers into their order of preference. This week’s questions include: Who has the most tattoos – Maradona, David Haye or Chris Hoy?

The second round, Guest List, challenges the teams to come with up with the same answers a famous sports star has given in response to a question about their profession, and tonight the questions are all about The Hayemaker himself. What does David Haye think are the three best things about being a boxer?

The third and deciding round, Human Clock, is the ultimate test of knowledge and stamina. Two team members must answer quick-fire questions for as long as the third teammate can sustain a physical challenge. This week, John Bishop and Neil Morrissey go head-to-head as they don weighted skull caps in a chin-up challenge.

It’s red v blue, Redknapp v Flintoff, and no one wants to be on the losing side. Who’ll have the last laugh and claim victory, proving they’re truly in a league of their own?

Guests confirmed to appear in the rest of the series include Amir Khan, Jimmy Carr, Alastair Campbell, Ruth Jones, Claudia Winkleman, Matt Le Tissier, Dara O’Briain and Steve Harmison.

In a game of two halves, A League Of Their Own is all about banter and gags as this exciting new format embraces Sky’s proud sporting pedigree to create a back-of-the-net winner.

Thursday 11 March 21.00 Sky1 HD & Sky1

As I’m about to be nasty to James Corden in this article, I thought it a good idea to stick a picture up of him with one of his many awards to show me who the real idiot is.

So.

Idiot tub-jape James Corden is to front a show that’s They Think It’s All Over, only repackaged and tarted up with different guests and on a different channel. Yep, Sky1/HD has announced details of its ‘brand new comedy panel show’ A League Of Their Own.

Team captains are Jamie Redknapp and Freddie Flintoff and regular guests are Sky Sports News Georgie Thompson and comic John Bishop.

Corden, resisting the urge to whip his top up and shout “WHHOOAARGH! LOOK AT ME! I’M A FAT MAN!” said: “I’m thrilled to be hosting A League Of Their Own and can’t wait to start. I’ve never hosted a show like this before and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve come to the conclusion that as I spend most of my time sitting around with my mates talking about sport, I might as well get paid for it.”

On the team captains James comments; “We’ve got two brilliant team captains in Andrew Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp, so the banter is going to be great.”

A League of Their Own takes its cue from sporting obsession and sets two teams of comedians, celebrities and sports stars against each other in a test of their sporting knowledge. From record breaking feats to headline grabbing events, the show is stuffed with the kind of sensational take home facts that sports fans just love to quote.

The show tackles questions like – which footballers spent the most on their weddings and can you arrange David James’ haircuts in chronological order? Or what does Rio Ferdinand think are the three worst things about being a Premiership footballer.

Other guests due to appear throughout the series will come from the worlds of sport, comedy and entertainment and will include tennis lover Jimmy Carr, Strictly presenter Claudia Winkleman, boxer Amir Khan, Mock The Week host Dara O’Briain and reigning Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button.

And it will just be like going back in time to the Nineties.
