Plus Marc Baylis reveals Rob Donovan’s back story

We’ll begin today’s round up of Coronation Street news with Alison King, who’s told Soaplife magazine that there’s a shocking climax in store for her character Carla Connor in the plot which has seen Carla’s boyfriend Peter Barlow giving custody of his son to estranged wife Leanne…

He did so when little Simon made it clear that it was Leanne he wanted to live with, and not his dad and Carla, but ever since Peter made the heartbreaking decision to abide by his son’s wishes, he’s been spiraling into a depression that will see him start drinking again.

And in anger, Peter will tell Carla that he wants to end their relationship because he says everything that’s gone wrong in his life is because of her…

But nonetheless, Carla will stand by Peter, and even support him when he attempts to take Simon out of the country.

Alison explained, “She loves Peter, but she feels a bit responsible for all the angst he’s going through over his son, and thinks maybe it would be easier if she’d have left him alone… Continue reading »

Plus John Middleton on Emmerdale Ashley’s shame, and Corrie stars Chris and Alison are taking a break

We’ll begin today’s soapy news round up with EastEnders and a report in the Sun which states that Joshua Pascoe, who plays psycho Ben Mitchell, has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in a sexual assault.

The paper reports that the 16 year old actor was arrested by Scotland Yard detectives and was later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Last March, Joshua was interviewed by the police over allegations of bullying at top private school, the Italia Conti Academy stage school.

With regard to the sex assault charge, a family friend told the paper, “His mum is distraught. He’s only 16, so his arrest is very upsetting for the whole family.”

A Scotland Yard representative said, “A 16-year-old boy was arrested on May 24 in connection with an allegation of sexual assault.

“He has been bailed to return to a North London police station on July 31.”

And last night, a BBC spokesman said, “We are aware of the allegations.”

Over to Emmerdale now, and actor John Middleton who’s been talking to Soaplife about his character Ashley Thomas’s shame at having to work in a burger bar… Continue reading »

And Samia Smith to stay on with Corrie

The Sun today breaks the news that after she’s been raped and viciously attacked by her fiancé Frank Foster, factory boss Carla Connor will attempt to commit suicide.

Carla, who’s played by Alison King, will reportedly take a load of sleeping pills washed down with booze as she tries to come to terms with what Frank (Andrew Lancel) has done to her.

But just before her tragic attempt to kill herself, Carla will once again try to get Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) to leave his wife Leanne (Jane Danson) and start a new life with her, but yet again, he knocks her back.

A Corrie source told the paper, “Carla is at rock bottom. She prides herself on being invincible and feels utterly broken by Frank’s actions.

“Peter is the only friend she has left and she’s never felt rejection like it. She wants to end it all.”

After Peter leaves Carla to go home to Leanne, Carla takes the pills then calls Peter, saying, “I’m just ringing to say goodbye. I hope you have a happy life and please don’t blame yourself. It’s all Frank’s fault.”

Before Peter can reply to her, he hears a thud and the line goes dead. Fearing the worst, he calls an ambulance while racing to Carla’s flat where he finds her unconscious on the floor.

Cradling her while waiting for the ambulance, he tells her, “Carla, I’m so sorry. Please don’t die!”

These harrowing scenes will be aired in September.

In other news, Samia Smith, who of course plays Maria Connor, has signed on for at least another year with the Street.

The next big storyline for Maria will see her coming to terms with the fact that her boyfriend Chris has terminal cancer, and that he leaves her in order to spend his last months with ex-wife Cheryl and the couple’s son Russ.

In real life of course, Maria is dating Will Thorp, who plays Chris Gray.
