We’ll begin today’s round up of all things reality TV with X Factor judge Louis Walsh, who, at a press conference ahead of the show’s return to our screens on Saturday, has said that the show has “suffered” because Simon Cowell hasn’t been a judge this year or last year.

He said, “It’s suffered without Simon — it’s like the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger.

“Last year Tulisa and Gary were thrown in at the deep end and we struggled a bit but this year they’re stronger.”

Louis, who’s in his ninth year as a judge on The X Factor, hinted that he may bow out of the show in the near future.

He told Radio Times, “My ambition’s to get to 10 years. After that we’ll see.

“I don’t want to be like Brucie. I’ll know when it’s time to give it up.”

Last year’s series of The X Factor was repeatedly slated by fans and critics alike for being boring and not glamorous enough…

So this year, boss Simon Cowell is determined he’s going to return the show to its former glory, and to that end, as well as ordering a radical shake-up of the show, he’s also reportedly bringing choreographer Brian Friedman back, and is replacing the show’s current make-up artists with his personal team. Yes, team.

The Mirror reports that Simon has told everyone involved in the show, “I’ve had enough – things have got to change.”

An insider said, “Simon has made it clear that things have got to change and The X Factor must be the number one show on TV without question.

“Last year it was embarrassing being beaten in the ratings some weeks by Strictly Come Dancing, with all the buzz being about the BBC show instead of his.

“Simon won’t allow that to happen again and he wants Brian back on board to help the show look outrageous and unbelievable.”

Last year, Brian worked on the US version of the show and Simon has apparently “sent out an SOS” to get him back to the UK.

Simon has also ordered that there should be no “novelty” acts allowed through to live shows this year, and has told the judges to be far more critical during the Boot Camp stage… Continue reading »

Plus Amanda Holden attributes her career success to Simon Cowell

We’ll start today’s look at all things reality TV with The X Factor, where auditions for the show have been thrown into “chaos” by the forthcoming Olympics.

Ordinarily, the Boot Camp stage of the show is held in London, but as hotel rooms in London during the Olympics as rare as rocking horse poo, there are no venues that can house the 200 some acts who’re through to that stage.

So, for the first time in the show’s history, Boot Camp will most likely be held in Manchester or Birmingham.

Of the move, a show source told the Daily Star, “The Olympics has posed a huge problem for us this year.

“London has always been the choice venue for boot camp. But now we are having to re-think it, and fast.

“The place is completely booked out. It would be a nightmare to stage it during the Games so we’ll have to move…” Continue reading »

It’s been a busy old week on the reality TV front, and some of the best news I’ve heard in ages is that the lovely Mark Wright – late of TOWIE, and more recently of the Aussie I’m A Celeb jungle – has landed a role in a movie!

The Sun reports that Essex boy Mark will star alongside Kelly Brook as her “love interest” in a British-based gangster movie. Danny Dyer and Tamar Hassan are to star as well.

A source close to the movie told the paper, “Mark is keen to get into acting and Cockney gangster films are right up his street.

“He loves The Business and Football Factory, so it’s a dream for him to work with Danny and Tamar.

“Add Kelly into the mix, he’s made up.”

I’m really chuffed for him! He’s such as nice guy – as witnessed on I’m A Celeb – so good on ya Mark!

More good news today – and also from the Sun – is that BGT judge Amanda Holden and her new baby daughter Hollie are back at home, safe and well.

As you’re probably aware, Amanda and Hollie were both critically ill following the baby’s birth, and had to spend several days in intensive care, where Amanda received blood transfusions.

Amanda’s spokeswoman, Alison Griffin, confirmed that Amanda and Hollie were now at home, saying, “She is thrilled to be home with her family.

“Hollie is absolutely beautiful — and Amanda and Chris are completely besotted with their girls.”

So glad for them it all ended happily!

Finally, it seems that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new search for an singer/actor to take the part of Jesus Christ in a remake of Jesus Christ Superstar is open to both men and women.

The search for the new star is to be televised, X Factor styly, and ultimately, the new musical will play at venues all across the UK.

A source close to the project said, “Andrew wants to create the best performance he can and if that means hiring a woman to be Jesus then so be it.

“For him it’s all about the talent.”

However, it seems Lloyd Webber is braced for a backlash from Christian groups, who have already started muttering “blasphemy”…

But there again, if he hadn’t opened it to both genders, surely Equity would have had something to say about inequality?

Guess you can’t please all the people all the time, however, as Mary Magdalene is expected to be played by Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, that could end up being a sticky wicket if a woman was cast as Jesus.

However, auditions kick off this month, and will see Andrew himself heading up the panel of judges.

The contestants will be whittled down to join a boot camp, and from there, the best acts will be invited to the judges’ houses round, where 12 of them will be selected for the live TV shows.

I can’t wait to see how this turns out actually! I smell c.. c… controversy!

A frustrated Amanda Holden has threatened to throw members of the audience out of Shrek The Musical if they WOLF-WHISTLE at her.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge, who is starring as Princess Fiona at London’s Theatre Royal, said: “There’s wolf-whistling through the show. I literally think, ‘I’m coming down those steps and I’m going to take you out’.

“People think they’re hilarious.”

Amanda, 40, said she had no idea whether she will be signed up for next year’s BGT.

She said: “I always said five years would be great for me, and I’ve done five years.

“So if I come back next year it would be a bonus.”

Amanda Holden’s got a busy week this week; she’ll be on Britain’s Got Talent every night judging the semi finalists and the live grand final but what does she like to watch on television?

Apparently, she loves a bit of Katie and Peter Andre: The Next Chapter as they’re “great bad telly.  I’ve developed a soft spot for Peter Andre. I was never a fan of his music but he comes across as a really good dad and I’m a sucker for stuff like that.”

What does she hate?  Amanda doesn’t hold back and admits she’s not keen on Frankie Boyle.  Not just unkeen, in fact as she said, “I loathe him.  I don’t think he’s funny or clever and I don’t understand why anyone would give him a television show. You can print that.”

She also admitted she likes shows like Dancing on Ice and Strictly Come Dancing but would rather watch from her living room that participate on the show, “Once I had a dream that my agent had signed me up for Dancing on Ice and I was begging her to get me out of it.  It was horrible! I absolutely adore watching them, but there’s no way I would take part.”

Britain’s Got Talent will air every night this week culminating in the live final on June 4.
