Born to Shine

Sunday, 14 August 2011, 8:00PM – 9:00PM

The nation’s most talented children will help our best-loved stars learn a new skill in Born to Shine – a brand new entertainment series for ITV1.

Hosted by Natasha Kaplinksy, this unique format will see celebrities facing an exciting challenge as they attempt to learn a brand new skill – mentored by a host of extraordinary children who have exceptional talents.

Born to Shine sees ITV join forces with Save the Children as each week our celebrities’ performances will help raise money for the charity as they attempt to win a place in the grand final.

Natasha, who is an ambassador for Save the Children, says: “The programme will see some very talented children passing on their skills to a range of top celebrities. I am excited by the prospect of seeing how the famous faces tackle the challenges and delighted that they’re all doing it to help raise money for Save the Children, a charity very close to my heart.”

Born to Shine will showcase some of the UK’s most gifted children who will mentor the celebrities as they learn a new skill. Each week three of the celebrities will take to the stage and perform their new skill live to the nation, these will include playing electric guitar, rapping, tap-dancing, playing the harp and beatboxing.

Under the watchful eye of their young mentors, the celebrities will be hoping they can hold their nerve as they perform to impress both the public and a judging panel, headed by Denise Van Outen and Jason Gardiner, who will be joined by a guest judge.

The celebrities taking part in week four are John Barnes (Hip Hop), Jennie McAlpine (Electric Guitar) and Gareth Thomas (Harp)

Born to Shine will also feature a number of films showcasing Save the Children’s projects at home and overseas, bringing the reality of the charity’s life-saving work into the homes of the UK public. Host Natasha Kaplinsky, Chris Tarrant and actress Dervla Kirwan each travelled to Africa, whilst Paul O’Grady hosts a film about the charity’s work around the world.

Born to Shine is supporting Save the Children’s No Child Born to Die campaign which launched in January of this year aiming to save millions of children’s lives. At the heart of No Child Born to Die is the belief that all children, regardless of circumstance should have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and that every child is born to shine. The series has been inspired by No Child Born to Die and offers a great opportunity to engage millions of households across the UK with its lifesaving work.
