London, Friday 21 September 2012: The UK’s recorded music association, The BPI, is delighted to announce that trumpeter Alison Balsom will open this year’s Classic BRIT Awards 2012 with MasterCard with a fanfare.

Taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on 2 October the event will be attended by HRH The Duchess Of Cornwall.

Hosted by Myleene Klass for the fifth consecutive year, The Classic BRIT Awards 2012 will be a celebration of musical achievement across classical, crossover, theatre and film from the past 18 months. The gala night will see nine award presentations alongside eight unique performances specially created for the event.

Myleene Klass said, “I am thrilled to have been asked to present the Classic BRIT Awards for the fifth year. It is the highlight of my music calendar and the excitement that surrounds each award presentation and every unique performance is palpable. From Alison Balsom’s trumpet fanfare to Gary Barlow reuniting with the Military Wives for a performance of ‘Sing’, this will be a night to remember.”

British trumpeter Alison Balsom will make her fourth Classic BRIT Awards performance this year providing a fanfare to accompany the arrival of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall and mark the start of the Classic BRIT Awards 2012 with MasterCard. This will be the start of a spectacular night for Alison Balsom who is nominated for the third time for the Female Artist award, winning twice previously in 2009 and 2011. She won her first award in 2006 for Young British Classical Performer.

The London Chamber Orchestra, whose patron is HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, will be providing the accompanying music for the night. Conducted by James Morgan, the Orchestra, in addition to the evening’s music accompaniment, will present a unique and spectacular montage for Lifetime Achievement recipient John Williams. The performance will be in tribute to the Hollywood legend’s towering body of film score epics including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Superman, ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Through a series of stunning collaborations, the Classic BRIT Awards 2012 will feature more artists than ever before, with the full line up confirmed to include: Alison Balsom, Amore, André Rieu, Andrea Bocelli, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gareth Malone, Gary Barlow, London Chamber Orchestra, Military Wives Choir, Milos Karadaglić, Nicola Benedetti, The cast of Phantom Of The Opera and Russell Watson.
