Dancing on Ice

DancingonIcelogo2013The next season of Dancing on Ice will be the last ever for the series.

ITV, Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean yesterday confirmed that the reality series will return or just one more season next year.

ITV’s Director of Television Peter Fincham said: “Dancing on Ice has been a firm favourite with viewers since it launched eight years ago and we all have every intention of going out on a high next year.”

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean said: “Next year will be the 30th anniversary of Bolero and our Olympic Gold medal in Sarajevo and for us, it seemed a fitting time to say goodbye to Dancing on Ice. We wanted to go out on a high. We have loved every minute of the eight series and we’re determined to make our final series the best ever. It has been a real pleasure to work on one of the UK’s biggest and best loved entertainment shows and we are extremely proud of the skating legacy that we have built up since the show launched in 2006. We will miss it hugely and would like to thank all the viewers and fans for their continued support. Continue reading »

Matt LapinskasThe voting stats for the latest season of Dancing on Ice have been released by ITV.

They make for interesting reading given that eventual runner-up Matt Lapinksas was in the bottom two after the public vote on all but one occasion.

The actor and his professional partner Brianne Delcourt managed to avoid the skate-off most time due to their superior judges’ scores.

The ITV series struggled to hold viewers across the season before managing to attract an audience of 6.69 million for its finale last Sunday.

A rep for ITV has confirmed that plans are underway for the show to return in 2014, with a fresh bunch of celebrities looking to achieve what Beth Tweddle managed on Sunday.

ITV shelled out big money for Pamela Anderson to take part, only to see her get the boot on the very first show after losing the skate-off to Keith Chegwin. Continue reading »

The experienced sports presenter has been with the ITV series since its beginning in 2006, sharing his thoughts on the celebrities’ performances prior to the judges’ scores.

Matt LapinskasBeaten Dancing on Ice finalist Matt Lapinskas has vowed to keep skating.

The actor narrowly missed out on the title tonight after facing off against Beth Tweddle and Luke Campbell in the final, with Tweddle going on to claim the win for 2013.

Lapinskas said after the result was announced that he wants to continue with the sport.

“It has been an amazing ten weeks. Congratulations Beth, really well done, great contender. Dan, congratulations mate,” he said.

The Olympic gymnast has edged out actor Matt Lapinskas to take out the ITV series with her professional partner Dan Whiston.

Luke Campbell finished in third place.

The Olympic boxer failed to progress to the final two, which is made up of Beth Tweddle and Matt Lapinskas – who were the two frontrunners from way back.

samiaDancing on Ice has posted another all-time low in terms of audience numbers.

Last night’s episode, which saw Coronation Street actress Samia Ghadie eliminated, drew an average of just 6.2 million viewers, down 300k on last week.

The skate-off between Ghadie and Luke Campbell that followed the main show was seen by 4.9 million.

At one point in time, Dancing on Ice was reaching highs of around 12 million.
