Diamond Jubilee

The BBC has again apologised for its questionable coverage of the Diamond Jubilee earlier this year and placed blame on the weather.

New BBC chief George Entwistle was heavily criticised for his role in the coverage, which was widely slated by both the public and various celebrities.

BBC’s outgoing Director General has said that the broadcaster must learn lessons from its much-criticised Diamond Jubilee coverage.

Mark Thompson told MPs that while for the most part he felt the coverage was “a really good piece of broadcasting”, he feels the beeb will need to eliminate the flaws.

And so it continues. “Disgracefully bad” is the latest description from a well-known media personality of the BBC’s Diamond Jubilee coverage.

Former Woman’s Hour presenter Sue MacGregor has criticised the beeb’s coverage of the Thames Pageant, saying she was disappointed with their offering.

“I was hugely disappointed with the BBC coverage of the pageant,” MacGregor told The Daily Telegraph.

Jonathan Ross has taken a swipe at his former employer the BBC for its Diamond Jubilee coverage.

Ross has joined in the chorus of criticism aimed at the beeb for what he refers to as “piss-poor” coverage of the Queen’s celebrations.

Fearne Cotton has responded to what she calls “bullying” following her stint on the much-criticised BBC coverage of the Diamond Jubilee.

The presenter has copped a lot of flak online for her work during the coverage, as have many of the other presenters.

“People who sit lazily and judge others will never grow. They’ll never take a look at themselves or feel content. Shame so many do,” Cotton said on Twitter.

X Factor rescheduled due to football

X Factor producers have changed the time of the Glasgow auditions next Monday due to a clash with England’s opening game at Euro 2012 against France. Filming will cease during the game so that cast and crew can watch it.

The BBC has been panned for its coverage of Sunday’s Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant.

A number of high-profile Brits have criticised the broadcaster for its “lamentable” “celebrity-driven” coverage.

Stephen Fry was among the critics, saying on Twitter: “Has the BBC ever presented a more mind-numbingly tedious programme in its history?”

BBC coverage of last night’s Diamond Jubilee concert peaked at nearly 17 million according to official data.

The concert at Buckingham Palace that featured the likes of Robbie Williams, Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder averaged 14.68m on BBC One between 7.30pm and 10.45pm.

The audience peaked at 16.86m in the final moments, when the Queen took the stage to watch the fireworks. Continue reading »
