downton-abbey-brendancoyleDownton Abbey’s Brendan Coyle won’t be making any new Twitter friends if he keeps telling them to go “f*** yourself”.

The actor, who plays servant John Bate son the ITV1 series, got a little heated in an exchange with one follower after she criticised him for his comments regarding Margaret Thatcher.

Roberta Knighton told him his comments were “beneath” him to which Coyle responded: “Hard to know how to respond to that… but go f*** yourself feels about right.”

He added: “You have no idea what is beneath me… p.s. go f*** yourself x”.

Mrs Brown’s Boys creator and lead Brendan O’Carroll has expressed his interested in getting Hugh Bonneville to take part in a film version of the sitcom.

In the film, O’Carroll is keen to see Agnes fight to save her vege stall from closure and thinks that Bonneville would be perfect to play a barrister with Tourette’s Sybdrome.

“This barrister hasn’t represented anyone for five years because when he is under pressure he develops Tourette’s,” he told The Sun. Continue reading »

julian-fellowesDownton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes has not ruled out the possibility of a movie version of the series.

Fellowes spoke to Digital Spy regarding the possibility of a movie and said if they did one it would be at the end of the series.

“Rather like Sex and the City, keep the movie until the end of the series,” he said.

“I think that would be quite fun to do, but not simultaneously as I think the narrative gets all messed up.” Continue reading »

DowntonAbbeyMaggieSmithDownton Abbey has led the way for the British contingent at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

The ITV drama picked up the prize for best ensemble in a drama series, beating the likes of Mad Men and Homeland in the process.

Phyllis Logan accepted the award, saying: “We were so not expecting this. Shut the French windows, honestly! We would like to thank, first of all, SAG for even bothering to consider us … We’re just so overwhelmed by it all.” Continue reading »

itv-logoselfridgeTwo of ITV’s heavy-hitters have announced they will be leaving the broadcaster to set up their own production company.

Laura Mackie, ITV’s director of drama, and controller of drama commissioning Sally Haynes will both leave at the end of June.

The have been behind some of the recent hits at ITV, including Downton Abbey, Appropriate Adult and the Jeremy Piven-starring Mr Selfridge.

“The range of our output from Downton Abbey and Mr Selfridge through to Scott and Bailey and Appropriate Adult are testimony to the ambition of the channel,” Mackie said. “We’re sad to go but know that ITV drama will continue to go from strength to strength.” Continue reading »

Downton to take different route

Downton Abbey exec Gareth Neame has hinted that the series will take a different direction in its fourth season.

Downton Abbey has locked own the services of one of its best-loved cast members for its fourth season.

Dame Maggie Smith will return to the period drama for the next season, after earning herself a Golden Globe for her role as the Dowager Countess earlier this week.

The show’s executive producer Gareth Neame confirmed the news, adding that all of the other main cast members expected to return have already signed contracts for the fourth season.

Two celebrated British TV actors have been honoured at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

Homeland’s Damian Lewis and Downton Abbey’s Dame Maggie Smith both took home awards for their roles in their respective drama series.

Lewis collected the award for ‘Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series (Drama)’ for his role as Nicholas Brody while Smith was given ‘Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series (Drama)’ for her portrayal of Violet Crawley. Continue reading »
