Fern Britton Meets

10:00pm Sunday 18 December on BBC ONE

In the last of the series Fern Britton has an encounter with the owner of one of Britain’s loudest and most recognisable voices – Brian Blessed.

Brian has often played larger than life characters, from Fancy Smith in Z Cars to Vultan in Flash Gordon. But Fern discovers a quieter side to Brian – he is fascinated by religion and, in particular, Jesus.

As well as talking about his varied acting career, Brian movingly describes his teenage breakdown and a life-long love of adventure that has taken him up Everest three times. Friends Stephen Fry and Virginia McKenna pay tribute to one of our most flamboyant performers.

Ep 4/4

10:00am Sunday 11 December on BBC ONE

Russell Watson started singing in working men’s clubs in the North of England and rose to international stardom, performing for presidents and royalty. However, he counts his blessings every day – because he’s recovered from one illness that threatened his career and two brain tumours that threatened his life. Fern Britton talks to the singer known simply as “The Voice”.

Russell’s first big scare was when he had to have a polyp removed from his vocal chords in 2003. Three years later, after suffering severe headaches, a brain tumour was discovered. That too was removed, only for it to come back in 2007. He fought back again to re-launch his career and has now sold more than seven million records. Russell Watson’s brush with death has changed his attitude to life. He feels he has been given a second chance.

Ep 3/4

10:00pm Sunday 4 December on BBC ONE

In the second in her series of Advent interviews, Fern Britton talks to Katherine Jenkins – the girl from the Welsh valleys who has become a global star.

Katherine speaks candidly about her upbringing, the loss of her father, her love of music and her extraordinary determination to succeed. She has sold millions of albums and found fame and fortune – but what role does her Christian faith play? Friends and family give their unique perspective and Fern explores the values that guide the singer’s life.

10:00pm Sunday 27 November on BBC ONE

Fern Britton returns with a new series of Advent interviews in which people who are in the public eye talk about how their faith has affected their lives.

In this first of four programmes, Fern travels to Dartmoor in Devon to meet a formidable political brainstormer who retired from the Commons before the last Election but has certainly not faded from the limelight.

Ann Widdecombe talks candidly to Fern about her Anglican upbringing, her conversion to Catholicism, views on feminism and on life behind the scenes of Strictly Come Dancing.

Anton du Beke and Lord Alton of Liverpool are among those who contribute their own thoughts on the woman who waltzed from Westminster into the public’s affection.

10.00am Sunday 28 November on BBC ONE

EastEnders favourite June Brown, who plays Dot Cotton, is the first guest in a new series of the show in which Fern Britton talks to public figures about their faith
