Frank Skinner’s Opinionated

Frank Skinner is going back to the BBC for the first time in… well… ages!

He’s going to front new BBC Two show Frank Skinner’s Opinionated. In this show, he’ll be joined by two comedians to discuss the week’s events.

The show will be broadcast from a different location around the country each week in front of a studio audience.

Of course, Skinner has done a few gigs for the Beeb in recent years, doing a Panorama show on swearing and guest presenting on this and that.

However, he left the Auntie on quite bad terms after his last regular gig in 1999.

A pay deal ended rather acrimoniously with then director of television, Alan Yentob, blaming Skinner’s management and production company, Avalon, for the breakdown of talks.

Skinner, apparently wanted to do a drama, some sitcoms and a chatshow for £20m over two years. He subsequently took those ideas to ITV. The sitcom, you may recall, was a reasonable programme and Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned had it’s moments.

However, sitcom Shane was woeful.

On his new show, Skinner said: “It’s me, two guest comedians and, most importantly, the citizens of Great Britain sharing our opinions on stuff in the news. On a good week, I will probably crowd-surf”.

Frank Skinner is to front a brand new entertainment show for BBC Two which will see him unleash his own inimitable views and humour.

Marking his return to the BBC with his first BBC Two series since Fantasy Football, Frank Skinner’s Opinionated is a weekly topical show that takes on the big, and not so big, issues in the news from Frank’s unique perspective.

Joining Frank will be two top comedians to unpick both sides of the argument, while keeping an all-important eye on the funny side.

Each week the show will come from a studio in a different part of the country and will also feature a very opinionated audience, offering their own take on events.

Frank Skinner says: “It’s me, two guest comedians and, most importantly, the citizens of Great Britain sharing our opinions on stuff in the news. On a good week, I will probably crowd-surf.”

Frank Skinner’s Opinionated joins BBC Two’s entertainment offering with hit shows including Mock The Week and Never Mind The Buzzcocks as well as David Mitchell’s new comedy news-quiz, The Bubble.

Frank Skinner’s Opinionated was commissioned by Janice Hadlow, Controller, BBC Two, and Mark Linsey, Controller, BBC Entertainment Commissioning.

Janice Hadlow says: “Frank is a fantastic addition to the channel and his new show will bring a distinct entertainment flavour to the schedule at 10pm.”

Mark Linsey says: “Frank is one of the funniest faces on TV and his own individual style and unique humour is guaranteed to keep audiences laughing.

“It’s great that he will be joining the outstanding mix of entertainment across the BBC.”

Frank Skinner’s Opinionated is an Avalon production from Scotland for the BBC.

The executive producers are Alan Tyler for the BBC and Jon Thoday for Avalon. The producer is Paul McGettigan.

The show will air later this year.
