After weeks of rumours, Glee creator Ryan Murphy has finally confirmed that Paul McCartney’s music will feature in the show’s second season.

Last month Murphy announced that McCartney had sent him samples of his music for consideration for the hit series.

Murphy has since confirmed to Rolling Stone that the ex-Beatles member will have his tracks in the show.

“I was gobsmacked… so of course we are going to do something with him,” he said.

Of course, as with any Glee news, Murphy will keep fans waiting by holding back whether only McCartney’s music will feature or whether the man himself will make a guest appearance.

In related news, Britney Spears has had her first day on the set of the musical series, shooting scenes for her guest spot.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed that Britney Spears will play herself when she appears on Glee in the upcoming season.

It was announced yesterday that Spears will be making an appearance on the show during the episode dedicated to her music.

“Well, it’s her idea. She sort of wants to do a ‘Where’s Waldo?’-type thing with ‘Where’s Britney?’ Yes, that’s all I can say,” Murphy told MTV News.

“And the reason we’re doing it is because so many of the kids on the show say, ‘We grew up with Britney. We want to do Britney’. So I said, ‘OK’, but I’m filled with admiration for her.”

Murphy described the episode as a “love letter” to the singer.

“You know, I met with Britney Spears years and years and years ago right when ‘(Hit Me)… Baby One More Time’ came out and I was sort of starting my career, and I’ve always loved her,” he explained.

“I think what she’s done in turning everything around is remarkable, and the show is just a love letter to her music.”
