Hebburn

10:00pm Thursday 22 November on BBC TWO

In the final episode of Hebburn, it’s wedding day, again, for Jack and Sarah, and the bridesmaids are visions in Dot’s choice of buttercup yellow.

Pauline, as excited as if it was her own special day, is slaving away in the kitchen and is literally up to her eyes in tiered cake and wedding preparations. Joe, taking refuge from the madness, gives his son a pre-wedding pep talk, along with a gift that he hopes will bring Jack good luck and as happy a marriage as his wife will allow. With the lads side-tracked for a swift one at Swayze’s, and with Sarah’s parents only just making it to Hebburn in time, the rush to get to the church leaves Pauline exasperated, Joe exhausted and the wedding ending in potential disaster.

Jack is played by ?Chris Ramsey; Sarah is played by Kimberley Nixon; Pauline is played by Gina McKee; Joe is played by Jim Moir; Ramsey is played by Jason Cook; Dot is played by Pat Dunn; ?Vicki is played by Lisa McGrillis; and Denise is played by Victoria Elliot.

It’s Jack’s first day in the office as Editor of the Hebburn Advertiser and he hopes to transform it into a bestselling paper that really makes a difference.

Jack’s not the only one aiming high and Vicki gets her heart broken when her boyfriend and pub singer Gervaise announces his big plans. Joe’s doctor tells him he needs to relax to help his heart problems and Pauline is on a mission to de-stress him. Luckily, Sarah’s hippy sister Marial is in town with essential oils, hands-on healing and a penchant for big Geordie bears. Sadly for Joe, it means he’s banned from pork pies and cheese, and forced to switch his beer for peppermint tea, even on Jack’s stag night. Vicki and Denise have their own plans to celebrate Sarah’s final night of freedom and after getting themselves thrown out of the bar, head to Swayze’s, where the boy’s night is well underway…

Episode 4 of Hebburn, and the Geordie answer to Thelma and Louise hit the road, as Dot offers to buy Vicki a car.

Things are getting a bit too cosy at the family home and Jack is under pressure from Sarah to find a job quickly, so they can move out. Jack too is desperate for them to leave, but won’t compromise in the job market, especially when he bumps into his old boss from the Hebburn Advertiser. Joe jumps at the chance to skimp on the chores as Sarah offers to do her bit around the house and, after rescuing a geographically challenged Vicki from her road trip with Dot, heads with Pauline to the local, Swayze’s. When his interview doesn’t quite go to plan, Jack too makes for the pub, where he’s joined by Sarah, but she doesn’t fancy a drink…

Ep 4/6

10:00pm Thursday 18 October on BBC TWO

New BBC Two comedy Hebburn tells the story of the Pearson family and their son, Jack (Chris Ramsey) who, having left his home town Hebburn for the bright lights and glamour of Manchester, has secretly married a middle class Jewish girl, Sarah (Kimberley Nixon), in a spontaneous wedding ceremony in Vegas.

In episode one, Jack decides it’s time to introduce his new wife to his family. Feeling anxious about how they’ll take the news that he and Sarah are married, the couple decide to keep their wedding a secret, just for a little while, and Sarah is introduced to the Pearsons as Jack’s girlfriend. When Jack and Sarah arrive at the house, mum Pauline (Gina McKee) goes overboard to make Sarah feel welcome and sets dad Joe (Jim Moir) to work in the kitchen to prepare some appropriate food for their guest.

Sister Vicki (Lisa McGrillis) is no wallflower, and inappropriately teases Jack about the thin walls in the house. That evening, the family head to their local, Swayze’s, where the pub singer Gervaise (Neil Grainger) hopes to win Vicky’s heart with his singing. Sarah is introduced to Jack’s old mates as well has his ex and ghost of Geordie girlfriends past, Denise (Victoria Elliot). Jack and Sarah hatch a plan to ease the family gently into the idea of their marriage and things appear to be going swimmingly but after Sarah has one too many, the party takes an unexpected turn.
