In Treatment

Sky Arts are to premiere the award-winning HBO series In Treatment on UK television this autumn, in a move that will see the critically acclaimed series – starring Gabriel Byrne, Dianne Wiest and Blair Underwood – receive a prime time slot on Sky Arts 1 HD and Sky Arts 1.

In Treatment brings the psychotherapy session into dramatic focus. The 43 episode series follows psychoanalyst Paul Weston (Byrne, who won a Golden Globe for his role) through his week, capturing sessions with his patients, as well Weston’s weekly appointments with his own therapist (Wiest.)

In a bold scheduling move for the channel, the series will be screened in 30 minute slots every weeknight, mirroring each ‘session’ in real time, with a full repeat omnibus screened on Sunday evenings at 10pm.

In Treatment is one of the most recent successes for HBO, winning 2 Emmys, a Golden Globe and a Writer’s Guild of America award. Adapted from a popular Israeli series, it will be shown in high definition.

“In Treatment is quite literally, addictive,” comments John Cassy, channel director for Sky Arts. “An innovative format, tightly written and compelling characterisation leave you devouring one episode after another. We’ll be showing it the way it deserves to be seen – from the way it’s scheduled to the quality of the high definition.”

“In Treatment has been one of the most talked about series of the past year,” adds Sophie Turner-Laing, managing director of Entertainment and News at BSkyB. “Its uniquely theatrical format makes it a great fit for Sky Arts, and reinforces our commitment to providing our customers, across the platform, with top quality drama.”

The New York Times have dubbed it: “Hypnotic…smart and rigorous bores deep… Addictive…Irresistible.”

Sounds great!
