And Catherine Tyldesley on being “Mr Bean with boobs!”

As fans of Coronation Street will probably know, four of the show’s stars, Sue Cleaver, Ryan Thomas, Brooke Vincent and Ben Price, recently jetted off to Africa to film the moving documentary, Corrie Goes To Kenya.

We’ll see the first part of the special film on Friday at 9pm on ITV1, and ahead of it, the actors have all revealed what a huge impact filming in the poverty stricken slum areas of Kenya had on them.

Sue, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, said that she’d decided to take part in the film hoping that she can help to raise awareness of the plight of some of the people she met.

She said, “To be able to make just a tiny, weeny bit of difference, I was like, ‘yes, absolutely, I’m on board’.”

And Brooke, who plays Sophie Webster, added, “I’m an emotional person and I know I’m going to want to take all of these people home with me, that’s what I’m like.”

The Corrie stars visited the biggest slum in Mombasa, Kenya’s second city, where an average of seven people live in each home, and where a poor sewerage system and lack of running water mean that cholera and dysentery are huge issues in the community… Continue reading »

Plus, Georgia May Foote talks surrogate baby plotline, and Simon Gregson talks Steve’s love life

It’s been revealed today that in the next couple of weeks, Kirsty Soames is going to give birth to a baby girl who she and delighted new dad Tyrone Dobbs will name Ruby.

However, things are set to take a sinister turn when baby Ruby proves to be a grizzly infant who can’t settle, which stresses tired mum Kirsty out, and she reacts violently…

Tyrone, who’s at work in the garage, is first alerted by the neighbours that something’s very wrong at home – they hear the baby crying and Kirsty screaming at her – so he rushes home to find Kirsty smashing the place up!

Hurriedly grabbing baby Ruby, Tyrone rushes out of the house, waiting for Kirsty to clam down before he returns. But while he’s out of the house protecting the baby, he decides that he must leave the area with her to keep her out of harm’s way at her mother’s hands…

But later, when Kirsty swears yet again that she’ll seek help, Tyrone agrees to return with the baby, but can Kirsty keep that promise, or will she hurt Ruby?

We’ll keep you posted!

In other Corrie news, but still on the subject of babies, Katy Armstrong is about to offer to have a baby for her sister Izzy – who of course recently had a miscarriage – however, as Georgia May Foote, who plays Katy, has revealed, Katy hasn’t really thought things through… Continue reading »

Plus Carmel McQueen is devastated by her scars

We’ll start today’s look at soapy news over in Coronation Street where next week, there’s tragedy in store for Gary Windass and Izzy Armstrong when they learn that Izzy’s had a miscarriage.

The plotline begins when Gary, concerned that pregnant Izzy is working too hard, storms over to the factory to have a word with new boss Rob, telling him that he needs to stop insisting Izzy does overtime.

However, Rob’s not interested and things become tense as it looks like the men might come to blows, and just at that moment, poor Izzy doubles up in pain…

She’s rushed to hospital but it’s too late; she’s miscarried the baby, and of course, she and Gary are devastated.

However, Gary promises Izzy that they can try for another baby, but in the wake of her upset, Izzy says she never wants to be pregnant again because she couldn’t go through the trauma of losing another child… Continue reading »

Plus, Ryan starts a fire at No13, and Dev becomes suicidal!

It’s an action packed week in Weatherfield this week, with the main drama focusing on poor Izzy Armstrong losing her baby and Stella catching Sunita and Karl red handed in the middle of…

Well, we can only guess from the position Sunita’s in in the pic on the left, but she seems to be doing her best Tulisa impersonation!

Also coming up – pun intended – Ryan Connor wastes no time getting into trouble back on the Street.

Beginning with Izzy’s baby drama, that starts when the poor girl suddenly experiences agony in the first of Friday’s trips to the Street, so a frantic Gary rushes her to hospital… Continue reading »

Plus, Peter Barlow thinks Nick is “slimy” and never ever call Anne Kirkbride Deirdre!

It’s been reported today that in forthcoming Coronation Street storylines, Katie Armstrong is set to offer to have a baby for her disabled sister Izzy, who, as we saw in last night’s episode of Corrie, has just found out she’s pregnant…

So I guess it’s safe to assume that she’s going to lose the baby at some point, or end the pregnancy if tests show that the baby has inherited her disability, which is Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

However, whatever the reason for the surrogacy suggestion, Izzy and Katie’s dad Owen is apparently going to strongly disapprove, and while the whole family attend little Joseph’s christening next month, he’ll deck Izzy’s boyfriend Gary Windass over the debacle!

I’ll bring you more spoilery news on that plotline as soon as I find out more about it… Continue reading »

And Kym Marsh reveals that Michelle and Steve will reignite their romance… kind of!

We’ll begin today’s Coronation Street news round up with the shocking revelation that former gigolo Lewis Archer will die later this year in a road accident.

Which of course is über bad news for crimper Audrey who’s only just got everyone to accept that Lewis – who’s played by Nigel Havers – isn’t out to rip her off this time around.

A show insider broke the news about Lewis’s forthcoming sticky end to People, saying, “[The producers] thought it would be tricky to keep his storyline going,” so the decision was made that Lewis would snark it.

However, the reality is that Nigel has been offered a lucrative deal to star in a panto later this year, but he would’ve needed time off from Corrie to do it, and it seems the show’s bosses weren’t over keen on that idea.

So Nigel had a choice to make, and it seems he voted with his wallet. Can’t say I blame him but I do feel sorry for poor old Audrey, who’s turning into something of a Carla Connor-esque black widow, given that her husbands have a nasty habit of dying on her… Continue reading »
