Live From Studio Five

Channel Five last night dismissed ex-footie star Ian Wright as presenter of its nightly show, Live From Studio 5.

Ian Wright, 46, has been a main presenter of the show since its launch but was axed after rows with bosses over his refusal to support Five’s ailing musical talent show, Don’t Stop Believing.

A friend of the star said, “Ian is not a puppet. Don’t Stop Believing has lost nearly a million viewers and he was told to come on air and say how great the show was, but he refused.”

The former footballer is also said to have been with the new format of the show, which has seen it cut from a one hour slot to just a half hour one.

Wright, who has been hosting the show despite having an ankle operation last month, is rumoured to be returning to his roots as a footie pundit.

Wright’s friend claimed that “Ian wouldn’t have walked out because it would have been unprofessional. He had even been coming in in a wheelchair and then crutches after the operation.  But to be honest he doesn’t need to do it, so it’s probably best to be off what is now a steadily sinking ship.”

Meanwhile, it doesn’t look good for Live From Studio 5, who are left with one original presenter and a presenter with no other experience no less.  Apprentice star Kate Walsh, is the only remaining original presenter after Melinda Messenger also left the show.

Five’s evening show, Live from Studio Five, is reportedly being cut from its one hour slot to a mere half hour show.

The show airs from 6.30pm till 7.30pm but since its launch last September it has already lost one of its original presenters and has struggled in the ratings war that sees the second half of the programme competing with BBC’s The One Show.

Executives are reportedly hoping that by cutting the show in half, more viewers will tune in and as well as this are also thinking about changing the presenting team which currently includes original hosts, Ian Wright and Apprentice star, Kate Walsh, and Jayne Middlemiss (who replaced Melinda Messenger).
