For the family of a psychic medium, every day of the year is spooky. This week, however, the arrival of Halloween makes the home life of Allison DuBois (Emmy award winner Patricia Arquette) even scarier than usual, as series six of supernatural drama Medium continues. A mother of three with a loving husband, Allison leads a normal life except for one extraordinary aspect – her psychic dreams that help her solve crimes for the local DA.

Based on the memoirs of a real-life medium who shares the protagonist’s name, the hit series has busted stereotypes of the otherworldly clairvoyant through six successful seasons with its portrayal of a down-to-earth woman who just happens to be able to predict the future.

This week, a funeral parlour director has gone missing and his hysterical daughter insists he would not have just slipped away without telling anyone. Her father spoke out against the local drug dealers, and the woman suspects they may have taken their revenge. Meanwhile, Allison is having a series of nightmares based on the marathon of classic zombie movies being shown on TV for Halloween. Her dreams suggest the missing man has become a member of the living dead, but that is not the only strange thing about these night terrors – they also appear to be doing physical damage to her body. Can a person come to bodily harm in a dream, and what do zombies have to do with a real-life missing person case?

American network CBS has gone on the rampage, culling seven shows from its line-up for the next season.

The network has cancelled several big-name shows as it makes room for new projects for the upcoming American summer.

Headlining the list of cancellations is drama series Cold Case, which has faded in the ratings in recent seasons. The show has run for seven seasons in total.

Jennifer Love Hewitt vehicle Ghost Whisperer has also been axed despite the show performing well for the network on Friday nights.

Despite rumours it may be saved by ABC, The New Adventure of Old Christine will also finish its run on CBS.

The other shows on the scrap heap are Numb3rs, Gary Unmarried, Miami Medical and Accidentally on Purpose.

But there was good news coming from CBS HQ as well with news that Rules of Engagement and Medium have been renewed by the network for another season.
