River City

Scots actor Colin McCredie (Taggart) is set to shake up the politics of Shieldinch as he joins the cast of River City.

Colin will play local politician Nick Morrison and will be on-screen at the end of January 2011.

Nick is married and lives a seemingly perfect and happy life with his nice house and big car. However, his marriage is actually somewhat stale and Nick is not as content as it appears from the outside.

Nick arrives in Shieldinch as a friend of the Brodie family and will soon step on Eileen’s toes in her role as a local councillor.

On joining the cast, Colin says: “I am delighted to be a part of River City. It will be quite strange as I have come across most of the cast on Taggart, either as dead bodies or murderers, so it will be nice to see some familiar faces.

“My character, Nick, is a councillor and prospective MSP who comes to help the area of Shieldinch and I believe ruffles a few feathers on the way. I am looking forward to seeing what happens to him over the next few months.”

River City is filmed in Dumbarton so Colin will be returning to his roots having been born at the Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria.

He says: “I don’t have many memories of the area as we moved to Perth when I was two, but it is weird to have ended up working so close to where I was born.”

Executive producer, Gaynor Holmes, says: “Colin is an enormously popular actor and we’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming him to River City.

“We have a fantastic cast and some brilliant upcoming stories to tell as the programme goes from strength to strength.”

Colin will make his first appearance in River City at the end of January.

River City is broadcast on Tuesday evenings at 8pm on BBC One Scotland.

It can also be viewed on Sky channel 971 and is available on BBC iPlayer.
