ITV have confirmed that they are planning to make a TV series which delves into the history of the famous Oxford street store.

The series will be an adaptation of Lindy Woodhead’s period novel, Shopping, Seduction & Mr Selfridge with Andrew Davies (who has worked on the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility) currently working on the script.

The novel tells the tale of American, Harry Gordon Selfridge, who launched the famous store back in 1909.

The broadcaster is apparently keen to replicate the success of the BBC’s period drama Downton Abbey.

A spokesperson for ITV said, “We’re in discussions with ITV Studios about the possibility of developing an adaptation of Shopping, Seduction & Mr Selfridge.”
