Stand Up for the Week is a new late-night series of edgy satirical takes on the big stories and themes of the week, as seen through the eyes of some of the country’s best comedians. Hosted by Patrick Kielty, it features a regular team of stand ups giving their uniquely incisive take on the week’s politics, sport and celebrity news. This new show, recorded in front of a live audience with celebrities and politicians packing the bar, is intelligent, spiky and above all, outrageously alternative.

Channel 4 is a broadcaster known for loving comedy.

And so, they’ve decided to go back to their stand-up roots with a new show, presumably to fill the gap left by Tonightly with Jason Manford (who now has The One Show gig).

The new show is going to be called Stand Up For The Week and it will be hosted by Patrick Kielty. The new six-part show is being described by Channel 4 as “no holds barred” and it will air on Friday nights at 11pm with regular standups including Rich Hall, Jack Whitehall, Andi Osho and Kevin Bridges.

Jack Whitehall there, being the fly in the ointment.

It seems that Channel 4 has decided to focus on comedy again after the success of the comedy-themed alternative election night in May, which starred David Mitchell, Jimmy Carr and Charlie Brooker.

The new series, which is being filmed at Koko in Camden, will look at the week’s politics, sport and celebrity news with the first show to air on 25 June.

Channel 4 promises it will be a “late night, edgy and on the knuckle satirical take on the big stories and big themes of the week” and be “outrageously alternative”.

Big claims.

We can only hope it delivers.
