Meet Saxon, Orson and Bilbo – three phenomenal dogs who are ready to risk their lives to save ours. These are no ordinary dogs – they do the jobs we can’t do and they do them in some of the most dangerous and extreme environments.
Saxon – known to his colleagues as ‘The Saxonator’ – is a serious crime investigator extraordinaire, sniffing out and hounding down dangerous criminals.
A 3 year old black Labrador, he works for Hampshire’s Arson Task Force and helps the human investigators determine the cause of fires – arsonists watch out!
Then there’s ‘Awesome Orson’, the avalanche rescue dog, who doggedly scours the Alps in search of victim.
Orson is a 10 year old border collie and a veteran of the slopes. If someone is trapped after an avalanche they better hope Orson’s nearby, he can search large areas faster than a team of humans and can pick up the whiff of a human up to 2½ meters deep beneath the snow.
Finally, there’s 5 year old 14 stone Newfoundland, Bilbo.
He lives in Cornwall with Steve, a lifeguard with 32 years of experience. Bilbo trains with Steve and thinks he’s a lifeguard too. Newfoundlands are natural sea dogs and Bilbo has incredible skills in the water.
To see if he’s as good as Steve thinks he is – we pit this big dog against a super-fit lifeguard in a head to head contest. They must each rescue, not one, but two casualties 30 metres from shore, lugging back a colossal weight of 23 stone each – will Bilbo prove himself against the human lifeguard?
