Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here – Now and Then
Monday 14 January 2008 4:30pm – 5:00pm on ITV1.

Nearly thirty five years on from when ITV’s flagship holiday programme Wish You Were Here? first broadcast, Mark Durden Smith follows in his mother Judith Chalmers’ legendary footsteps to present a brand new travel series, Wish You Were Here…? Now and Then. The series takes a nostalgic romp through our holidaying habits from the 1970s, as well as offering viewers advice on where and how to holiday now.

Mark will be joined by Sarah Heaney and between them they will revisit worldwide destinations that featured in the original series and find out how they’ve changed and what they now has to offer to an altogether more travel savvy world of holidaymakers.

Each programme will feature one holiday destination that was first profiled in the original series. These include: Benidorm, Banff, New York, Portugal’s Algarve, Marrakech, Dubai, Amsterdam, San Francisco, Bournemouth, Blackpool, Mallorca, Ibiza, Dublin, and Pula in Croatia.

As well as offering up to date tips and information about where to holiday, the series will take an often humorous look back at archive footage from the original series to show the contrast between our holidaying habits now and then.

Each programme will also feature a member of the public who has brought a property in each country. We’ll find out why they chose to swap the UK for sunnier climes and they will be giving their ‘insiders’ guide to the ‘best bits’ that each resort has to offer.

Wish You Were Here…? Now and Then is the ultimate destination for planning your next break, and a nostalgic trip looking back at past holiday delights.
