World Olympic Dreams

12:00pm Saturday 9 June on BBC ONE

Matthew Pinsent tours the world in search of aspiring Olympians ahead of the London 2012 Games.

Matthew heads to Usain Bolt’s hometown in Jamaica to examine the impact his success has had on other sports there. Next up, Matthew meets the taekwondo fighter from Afghanistan who has become a symbol of hope in a nation which has rarely seen fighting as something to celebrate.

He also reports on how Kosovo’s top athletes have had their sporting dreams undermined by international politics. In Trinidad, a young hurdler tells us how a near-death experience changed both his life and his sporting career.

Finally, Matthew visits Korea where he catches up with a rower from Iraq who has one final attempt to qualify for the London Olympics.
