Five’s consumer technology show, presented by Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry and Jon Bentley, concludes this week. In the last edition of the series, Suzi and Jason compare green gadgets with their energy-guzzling equivalents. Jon is in the market for a new speaker system and Suzi puts a string of coffee machines through their paces.
Now in its eighth series, the Gadget Show continues to road-test the latest consumer technology using a number of exciting and entertaining challenges, explosive stunts and nailbiting races. The shows also include trustworthy reviews and buyers’ guides featuring in-depth examinations of the latest gadgetry on the market.
The last programme in the current run takes a look at green alternatives to everyday gadgets. These handy little devices promise to save the planet and save money – but are they any good? Suzi believes green tech is the way of the future, but Jason needs some convincing, and refuses to compromise on performance and spec.
To put green gadgets to the test, Suzi and Jason go head-to-head. First up, they are abandoned in urban backstreets with only an uncharged phone and a satnav for company. Suzi has to power up her gadgets with a wind-up charger, while Jason is equipped with a traditional in-car electric charger. Who will get their devices up and running and reach their destination first?
Next, Suzi is presented with a collection of gadgets designed to consume less energy, while Jason sticks with more traditional devices that have been adapted to be more energy efficient. Which of them can save the most money?
In the last part of their challenge, the pair try out some inventive personal transport devices. Jason goes for speed on an ozone-chewing jet-powered mountain bike and a Sach Madass 125 motorbike. Suzi, meanwhile, opts for an electric motorcycle and a hydrogen fuel cell bike. But which is the most fun?
Also this week, Jon tests the best pseudo surround-sound speaker systems on the market with the aid of Radio One movie reviewer James King. And Suzi enlists the help of a barista to compile her top-five coffee machines based on taste, speed and ease of use.
