Five’s consumer technology show, presented by
Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry and Jon Bentley,
phone that claims to be the toughest in the world;
put the latest generation of hand-held GPS
devices through their paces, see how a range of
tents stand up to the elements and race around in
some of the coolest off-road kit available.
Now in its eighth series, the Gadget Show
continues to road-test the latest consumer
technology in a series of exciting and entertaining
challenges, explosive stunts and nail-biting races.
The shows also include trustworthy reviews and
buyers’ guides featuring in-depth examinations of
the latest gadgetry on the market.
This week’s programme sees the gang hit the
picturesque countryside of the Welsh hills, armed
with a JCB Toughphone – reported to be the most
well-built mobile handset on the market. They
subject the Toughphone and its rugged rival, the
Samsung SGH-M110 – also known as the
Samsung Solid – to a series of rigorous tests to
see which really is the toughest. Will either phone
survive the Gadget Show treatment?
While still out in the country air, Jason, Jon and
Suzi put the latest generation of hand-held GPS
devices through their paces. Using just their
gadgets and a list of coordinates alone, the
intrepid presenters attempt to find their way back
home. They then see how a range of tents stands
up to a range of extreme conditions, including a
flash flood, strong winds, heavy rain and extreme
mud. Wet and bedraggled, the presenters cheer
themselves up by racing around in some of the
coolest off-road gadgets available – including a
motorised skateboard, an electric scooter, adultsized
pedal carts and three-wheeled bikes.
Elsewhere, Jon tests the three main PVR
services available: Sky, Virgin and Freeview; and
Jason, in his element at the London Toy Fair,
selects the top five toys due for release this year –
including some of the cutting-edge robotic toys
that will soon be hitting the shelves.
