Five’s consumer technology show continues its new series, with Dallas Campbell joining regular presenters Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry and Jon Bentley. In this week’s edition, Jon and Suzi test their newshound instincts and a range of media tools as they post entertainment reports on the web. Elsewhere, Dallas looks at survival gadgets; and Jason examines an in-car computer.
On this week’s Gadget Show, Jon and Suzi are set the task of becoming hard-nosed journalists for the day – but they are armed with very different resources. Suzi has the most advanced kit available to professional reporters, while Jon is only allowed to use the devices that he already owns. The would-be hacks are charged with shooting, editing and filing a report on the Birmingham Dance Festival. While Jon uses his Nokia N95 phone along with the online editing facility Jumpcut, Suzi has the benefits of a Panasonic P2 camcorder and a Macbook Pro complete with Final Cut Pro. Once they have finished tweaking their footage, they post their reports on Vimeo, an online blogging site.
Next up, Suzi and Jon must find another newsworthy event and use their respective gadgets to report live from the scene: Jon, again, has his N95 to broadcast onto UStream; whilst Suzi has some professional help in the form of a Five News crew and a satellite-internet link called Streambox. Will Jon, with little more than his mobile phone and laptop, do as good a job as Suzi?
Also this week Jason tests out an amazing incar PC to see if he can get through an entire day without ever having to leave his wheels. Dallas, meanwhile, enlists the help of survival expert Myke Hawke and a range of high-tech gadgets in order to get through a night in the forest. Can a GPS rescue beacon, a water purifier and an advanced shelter system keep Dallas and Myke safe until daybreak?
