Five’s consumer technology show, presented by Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry, Dallas Campbell and Jon Bentley, continues. In this instalment, the gang puts a range of outdoor technology to the test, including walkie talkies, thermal underwear and radios. Jon tracks down the best broadband deals available and Suzi lists her top five razors.
This week’s Gadget Show sees Jason, Suzi, Jon and Dallas head for the great outdoors to undertake their most extreme Wild Challenge yet. It is a chance for them to put the latest outdoor technology to the test, starting with some handy walkie talkies. Dallas and Jon are given a pair of trusty analogue transmitters, while Jason and Suzi get to grips with some cutting-edge digital devices. Both sets of walkie talkies are tested in terrible weather conditions.
The presenters then turn their attention to a range of technical thermal underwear, testing four pairs of high-tech pants to see how they hold up under extreme temperatures. The guys are put through a gruelling army training routine surrounded by flames, before being locked a big freezer. Will these specially designed undies keep them cool when they are hot, and warm when they are cold?
Next up, the team tests a range of rugged radios. These devices are built to withstand the rigours of a building site, but how will they stand up to being dragged across country, used for a game of boules and then fired from a homemade catapult?
Finally, the gang takes to the water to try out a tandem windsurfer and an inflatable yacht. The challenge ends with an all-or-nothing race across a lake to claim victory in what has to be the wettest, wildest and coldest challenge the presenters have ever faced.
Also this week, Jon goes in search of the best broadband deal in Britain. He compares packages to see if it is possible to get better speeds for less money, and finds out which internet providers have the best customer service records. And Suzi gets up close and personal with some big hairy men as she investigates the top five razors available on the market.
