Five’s consumer technology show, presented by Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry and Jon Bentley, continues. In this edition, the presenters turn their attention to music, testing a new music-based computer game, the latest in high-tech headphones and some expensive speakers. Elsewhere, Jon examines a range of domestic weather stations; and Jason looks at some of the best computer games on the market.
Now in its eighth series, the Gadget Show continues to road-test the latest consumer technology using a number of exciting and entertaining challenges, explosive stunts and nailbiting races. The shows also include trustworthy reviews and buyers’ guides featuring in-depth examinations of the latest gadgetry on the market.
This main item on this week’s show is music. Suzi, Jason and Jon get their hands on ‘Rock Band’ – the successor to the hugely popular ‘Guitar Hero’. This revolutionary new interactive computer game allows gamers to play the guitar and drums, and sing along with a range of wellknown rock songs. After forming the new Gadget Show band, Gadget Sabbath, the presenters perform a rendition of ‘Paranoid’. How will the game score the would-be rockers for timing, singing quality and showmanship?
Next up, the presenters pit two brands of noisecancelling headphone against each other – Bose over-ears and Shure in-ears. After each donning a different pair, Suzi and Jason are fed instructions down their headphones, whilst the ambient noise in the room is gradually increased. Each time a presenter fails to understand a specific instruction, his or her headphones lose points. Which pair will come out on top?
Suzi and Jason then test the hugely expensive KEF speakers, which cost some £12,000, against the more affordable Mordaunt-Shorts, costing £450 a pair. Once blindfolded, will the intrepid duo be able to tell the difference between the two sets of speakers?
Also, this week, Jon hits the road to test a range of domestic weather stations to see how accurately they can predict the weather; and Jason gives his rundown of the top five crossplatform computer games currently on the market.
