I note this morning that Jasmin Alibai-Brown was reprimanded for using the word 'bastard'. What does 'bastard' mean nowadays, as many children are born out of wedlock,' and this is what it used to refer to? The alternative meaning of the word is, according to Chambers Dictionary, resembling, but not identical to, the species bearing the name. Perhaps its meaning is so benign it should no longer be regarded as a forbidden term.Post new comment
